Carl Zeiss IMT Corporation Adds Higher Accuracy Model to Its Contura Series
MINNEAPOLIS, September 4, 2002 - Carl Zeiss IMT Corporation today introduced at IMTS '02 (Booth # 4501) Contura SELECT, a new model for its popular Contura series of scanning coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to meet the demand for a higher accuracy CMM for the mid-range market.
The affordable Contura SELECT model offers a guaranteed length measuring error of MPEE 2.0 + L/300 (according to ISO 10360-2). Contura models are available in four measuring ranges from 27 x 27 x 23 in. (700 x 700 x 600 mm) to 39 x 62 x 23 in. (1000 x 1600 x 600 mm) for a variety of applications.
With the Contura series, Zeiss brings the benefit of high speed scanning within the price range of traditional touch trigger CMMs. Contura comes with the Zeiss VASTXT probe head that enables users to measure a wider range of feature tolerances (including form, size and location).
It has part and machine temperature sensors and an ergonomic apron that surrounds the granite measurement surface, providing more work space and operator legroom.
The high performance Contura CMMs can be used with various probe shapes, sizes and weights. The CMMs allow for measurements of the smallest features with a probe tip diameter as small as 0.5 mm. Additionally, probe extensions (up to 500 mm) and weights (up to 500 grams) enable users to reach virtually any remote features or angles, increasing overall measurement capabilities.
The Contura CMM is equipped with a digital scanning controller - ISC (Intelligent Scanning Control) - and Zeiss Windows NT-based Calypso software. Part programs are developed by using a CAD model, inputting data from part drawings, or by reverse engineering. Calypso can be combined with HOLOS software, designed for the measurement of 3D surfaces and DIMENSION software, designed for reverse engineering tasks.
Carl Zeiss IMT designs and manufactures coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and other industrial metrology equipment. For more information, contact Carl Zeiss IMT Corporation, 6250 Sycamore Lane North, Maple Grove, Minnesota 55369, (800) 752-6181, or visit http://www.zeiss.com/imt.
