American Power Conversion Extends InfraStruXure(R) InRow(TM) Cooling Solutions Up to 70 kW with Dynamic Capacity Control for Energy Savings

New InfraStruXure InRow RP Lowers Energy Costs by Varying Cooling Capacity with Heat Load Requirements

WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Jan. 29 -- American Power Conversion (NASDAQ:APCC) (APC), a global leader in power, cooling and management solutions, today announced the availability of InfraStruXure(R) InRow(TM) RP, its new innovative cooling unit for data centers and small computer rooms. The InfraStruXure InRow RP places cooling next to the heat source, providing predictable, dynamic heat removal for medium, high and ultra-high density deployments. The InRow RP is the latest in the suite of InfraStruXure InRow cooling units that can support power densities of up to 70 kW per rack when used with hot air containment systems.

"APC's new InRow RP provides customers with predictable and high density cooling to meet the changing demands and increasing power densities in both data centers and server room environments," said Bud Collins, general manager of APC's Cooling Systems group. "Increasing deployments of blade servers and recurring IT refreshes are driving up power densities in the data centers beyond the capabilities of traditional cooling systems. This new product is specifically targeted to meet these requirements."

APC's InRow RP is available in both chilled water and refrigerant-based designs, making it suitable for a wide range of environments. The architecture eliminates the requirement for constant speed fans used in traditional approaches, saving energy and maximizing power available for IT deployments. This variable airflow capability lowers operating costs by reducing energy consumption during partial load conditions. An integrated humidifier provides room-level moisture control, preventing damage to sensitive electronic equipment due to static electric discharge. Additional moisture control is provided through a dedicated dehumidification cycle and standard reheat coil to prevent overcooling during dehumidification.

APC's cooling design allows for the addition of hot aisle or rack air containment, improving predictability and isolating rack deployments, allowing high-density installations in data centers with traditional cooling architectures. A patent-pending control algorithm enables real-time capacity monitoring to facilitate planning of new IT deployments.

The InRow RP is an ideal cooling solution for small to large data centers and is available in chilled water up to 70 kW or refrigerant-based up to 37 kW. APC's InfraStruXure Designer tool for planning and designing data centers now includes the InRow RP to allow APC's channel partners to design layouts that include the new cooling unit. InfraStruXure Designer's new three-dimensional view allows APC's channel partners to show a data center from all angles and switch seamlessly between the floor, rack and 3D view at any time in the process.

The InRow RP is currently available in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It will be available in Asia Pacific at the end of March. To learn more about the InRow RP and APC's other cooling solutions for high density applications, please visit www.apc.com or call 800-877-4080.
