APC Announces New InRow RD Modular Cooling System Ideal for Server Room and Data Center Deployment

Row-Based Direct Expansion Cooling Solution Ensures Proper Airflow Paths and Increases Energy Efficiency

LAS VEGAS - September 15, 2008 - APC by Schneider Electric, a global leader in integrated critical power and cooling services, today announced the APC InRow RD, its new 300mm row-based, direct expansion cooling solution for network closets, server rooms and data centers. Key features of the APC InRow RD include real time capacity monitoring and easy operation, as well as variable speed fans that reduce energy consumption during off-peak hours. In addition, the modular design provides scalable solutions to add cooling as demand increases, up to 10kW. Visitors to VMWorld 2008 can receive additional information on the APC InRow RD at APC's booth (#450).

With consolidation, power over Ethernet and virtualization making traditional server rooms increasingly complex, a cooling issue can be a contributing factor to ongoing power problems. Designed for installation within the row of racks, the APC InRow RD captures hot exhaust air directly from the aisle and distributes cool air through the front of the unit, which ensures temperatures are held at setpoint conditions.

"Larger and more complex server rooms are invariably running into one or more serious power problems as they expand," noted Pat Johnson, vice president, Rack and Cooling Solutions, APC. "The goal of APC's products is to grant unprecedented visibility into the inner workings of the server room, enabling users to monitor equipment effectively, identify issues before they become significant problems and truly manage the environment.

"With this goal in mind, the new APC InRow RD was designed to address server room issues in a unique, modular fashion that can help prevent downtime whether it is used by a small business or enterprise branch office," Johnson continued. "Placing the APC InRow RD unit in the row of racks moves the source of cooling closer to the heat load. This prevents the air from mixing and provides a predictable cooling architecture, allowing for tremendous flexibility and savings on installation as well as operation."

The APC InRow RD is controlled by a microprocessor that provides a high level of functionality over the unit's controls through a four line alphanumeric display and enables centralized management via the APC InfraStruXure Manager.

The APC InRow RD is a global offering but is currently available only in North America and sold through APC's extensive network of channel partners. In addition to this 300mm APC InRow RD launch, APC also introduces in North Amercia the 600mm InRow RD (up to 29kW) and the 600mm APC InRow RC (up to 43kW) for higher capacity environments.
