Gerber Technology Launches DCS3600

August 5, 2008 - Connecticut, USA - Gerber Technology, a unit of Gerber Scientific, Inc. (NYSE:GRB), and the world leader in automated CAD/CAM and PLM solutions for the apparel and flexible materials industry, introduces the DCS3600 / 3600L, the latest advancement in single-ply conveyorized cutting technology. Greater accuracy, speed and flexibility are the driving forces behind the development of this innovative product line.

The DCS3600 system is the newest conveyorized single-ply GERBERcutter®. Built on the DCS3500 platform, it has been engineered for unrivaled performance and accuracy. With its small footprint and simple-to-use graphical user interface, it easily integrates into any cutting room environment in the transportation, aerospace, marine, apparel and furniture industries. Gerber's powerful CutWorks® software is included with all system configurations, enabling full automation and greater efficiencies in the cutting process. The DCS3600L provides a longer cut window, an option for manufacturers whose applications require the ability to cut pieces up to ten feet in length between bites. Conveyorized cutting in fewer bites produces greater throughput and a more precise cut.

The new line of DCS3600 cutters introduces advanced vision technology with Gerber's proprietary TargetVision(TM) solution for the industrial fabrics industry and AutoMat System, a standalone cutting system designed to fulfill the needs of mat manufacturers in the transportation and technical textile markets. "Because we've been working in these industries for decades, we have a deep understanding of their specific requirements, as technologies evolve and tolerances become more stringent," said Trip Todd, product manager, single-ply cutters, for Gerber Technology. "To best meet the needs for these applications, we've made significant investments in research and development, resulting in solutions including TargetVision and AutoMat System. "We're seeing a tremendous increase in throughput and efficiencies throughout the cutting process as a result of " improvements to our vacuum system, as well as the introduction of electronic knife pressure regulation and other software and hardware enhancements," he added.

TargetVision utilizes sophisticated digital camera technology, capturing detailed images of materials placed on the cutting table. The camera is mounted on the cutting beam and quickly identifies targets on the material, automatically adjusting the location and angle of the cut to match the graphic on the material. This functionality provides exceptional accuracy and cut quality. Carpet, graphic design and sign making are just a few of the specialty applications to fully realize the benefits of TargetVision.

The AutoMat System addresses the unique requirements of the specialized mat industry, such as identifying different material borders as a partially-finished mat is loaded onto the cutting table. It uses innovative scanner technology that recognizes where the mat's carpet and rubber border meet. The full-width scanning unit is mounted above the cutting table, meeting the challenge of not only capturing borders, but also identifying repeat patterns on continuous rolls. "The mat industry has been waiting for a viable solution for their exact specifications. We've developed a comprehensive system to provide them with the precision and speed they need," commented Todd.

Additional hardware options are available to further improve the overall throughput and flexibility of the DCS3600 systems:

o Single-ply feeder: Allows easy roll changes and enables direct cutting from the material roll

o Part identification system: Accelerates bundling of cut pieces as they are removed from the cutter

o Projector for Matching: Allows for stripe and floral matching, and the ability to adjust for bow and skew provides the highest quality matching available today

o InfoJet inkjet labeling system: Offers fast, accurate identification of cut parts with visible and UV inks
