Interroll Provides Plug & Play Intelligent Conveyor Controls

WILMINGTON, N.C. (June 30, 2003) - Interroll Corp. announces the availability of its plug & play DriveControl Zero Pressure Accumulation (ZPA) system for intelligent conveyor controls. The user-friendly programmable ZPA control boards enable plant engineers to control Interroll's RollerDrive brush type, brushless or gearless motorized rollers according to the application. Using sensors (photo eyes), relays and plug-and-play interconnect cabling, one ZPA card can control up to 4 zones for optimized package conveying.

"Interroll only requires two control cards for operation, the competitors require three," said Global Product Manager, Ken Bobick. He continued, "less components, easier installation and programming, greater intelligence and flexibility make DriveControl a superior product."

Interroll's ZPA card also provides Enhanced Singulation Mode, which simulates a controlled train release to reduce mechanical stress. DriveControl's Zero Pressure solution is compatible with DeviceNet fieldbus networking protocol for optimum interface with higher level conveyor system control architectures.

The control cards function for either single zone or up to four (ZPA +4) zone conveyor systems. Each zone of the ZPA system is the length of one package (approximately 2-4 feet) and is driven by one RollerDrive motorized roller. Each zone is controlled by a single ZPA board and interface that is connected by a six-wire phone type communication cable. The presence or absence of a package is detected by NPN type sensors. When a package enters a zone during operation, the control logic checks to see if the next zone is occupied or vacant and the package is either released or accumulated. The information is passed from board-to-board and zone-to-zone to create a logic-controlled conveyor system without expensive internal controls. In addition, the system can be linked with an optional DeviceNet PC bus network for system monitoring and management.

The ZPA +4 system may be used to control merge, diverts and right angle transfers by controlling each zone. ZPA control cards are easy to install with "plug & play" connections and instant intelligence. All control functions are set by on board DIP switches for simple zone control selections.
