Fairport, New York. USB-COMi-SI is a compact cost-effective solution for adding an opto-isolated Windows serial COMport via a USB connection and can be configured to work with RS-422 and RS485 peripherals such as POS and Industrial Control devices. USB Plug and Play allows easy serial port expansion without requiring IRQ, DMA, or I/O port resources.
Housed in a strong plastic enclosure, USB-COMi-SI features a full set of RS422/485 data and control signals (TX-, TX+, RX+, RX-, GND, RTS-, RTS+, CTS+, CTS-) on its DB9 male connector. USB-COMi-SI has an internal 128 byte transmit buffer FIFO and a 384 byte receive buffer FIFO. It supports data transfer rates of up to 1 million bps. No external power supply is required since USB-COMi-SI takes its power from the USB bus. Connection to USB is via a 0.9m detachable USB cable, but longer USB cables can be purchased separately if required.
USB-COMi-SI is based on FTDI's single chip FT232BM USB UART i.c. for transferring serial data over the Universal Serial Bus without needing card-slots. USB-COMi-SI uses the laptop's USB connection - great for PCs without even one serial port! USB-COMi-SI has an internal jumper strip which allows configuration for either RS-422 or RS-485 mode, ideal for a wide range of industrial peripherals. USB-COMi-SI comes complete with royalty-free drivers for Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, but free drivers are also available for Apple OS-8/9/X as well as Linux.
