Rockwell Automation Expands Allen-Bradley CompactLogix Family With Integrated ControlNet Connectivity
Network connectivity embedded within two new controllers saves time and money during programming, installation and configuration
MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio, September 20, 2004 - End users and OEMs seeking flexible machine control in a compact, space-saving package have new options available from Rockwell Automation in the form of two new Allen-Bradley CompactLogix controllers. The CompactLogix 1769-L35CR and 1769-L32C controllers offer integrated ControlNet network connectivity, which eliminates the need for modular communications, simplifies programming and cuts installation and configuration costs.
"Adding ControlNet connectivity to the CompactLogix family expands our ability to provide control options for a variety of OEM and end-user application needs," said Sam Malizia, CompactLogix product manager, Rockwell Automation. "The new controllers feature an easy-to-use front-accessible Network Access Port that speeds configuration, while an integrated ControlNet port mounted on the bottom of the controller allows out-of-the-way cable installation and reduces connector strain for increased reliability."
During programming, integrated ControlNet connectivity enables users to configure both ControlNet and DeviceNet from one central access point. Using a single programming software package, users can configure the ControlNet network and bridge from ControlNet over to DeviceNet to configure any devices on DeviceNet.
During installation and configuration, the integrated ControlNet connection saves time because the ControlNet device is configured automatically when users apply power to the controller. This eliminates the steps previously required to install, configure, and add a scanner module to the programming tree.
In addition to integrated ControlNet functionality, the CompactLogix 1769-L35CR offers redundant media to provide greater reliability in complex applications. It supports as many as 30 local I/O modules and offers 1.5 MB programming memory for powerful capacity in a small package. The CompactLogix 1769-L32C is designed for smaller scale, single media applications, supporting as many as 16 local I/O modules and providing 750 KB of programming memory. The CompactLogix 1769-L35CR is available in October, and the 1769-L32C will be available in early 2005.
