Adept Technology Announces High Performance Motion And Vision Controller

New Adept SmartController CX Features Faster Processor and Support for AdeptVision for Sophisticated Motion and Vision Applications

San Jose, California - June 25, 2002 - Adept Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTK), a leading manufacturer of flexible automation for the electronics, fiber optic, telecommunications and semiconductor industries, today announced the introduction of the second in a family of distributed motion and vision controllers, the Adept SmartController CX. The Adept SmartController CX comes with full support for AdeptVision sAVI and a faster processor that supports the most demanding motion and vision applications. The SmartController CX also includes additional serial communication ports for added flexibility, as well as standard Fast Ethernet, DeviceNet, and Adept's FireWire® based SmartServo(tm) network interfaces.

The SmartController's unique distributed network control architecture uses Adept's SmartAmp technology which allows it to be scalable, and reduces form factor and cabling up to 70%. "With the introduction of the CX, we have completed the first phase of the SmartController product line. We can now offer the smaller footprint, reduced wiring and installation costs, and the scalable servo architecture that our customers are demanding for their most complex applications," said Joe Campbell, vice president of marketing for Adept Technology. "The SmartController CX delivers the industry proven scalability of our FireWire® based distributed control architecture with full support for the most advanced vision and motion applications."

The SmartController CX with the AdeptVision sAVI option allows the user to program complex applications where part orientation and recognition are required, ultimately allowing for shorter cycle times and the performance of applications otherwise not possible. The faster processor is designed to allow for more complex applications that require more CPU power while the additional communication ports enable more devices to be controlled and interfaced by a single controller.
