"All-in-One" Controller-Sensors Bring New Levels of Accuracy, Cost Savings to Process Control Systems

With a complete line of Burkert programmable controller-sensors that connect directly to valves for easy, fast and reliable process control, system engineers can often eliminate the need for a PLC and realize up to 50% savings on total system cost of ownership.

Combining sensor, control and communication functions, these intelligent sensors offer "All In One" functionality and provide 5 different functions in one device:

Sensor - local gauge readout, analog or digital

Transmitter - 4 to 20 mA output process signal

Controller - local or external programmable setpoint

Switch - 3 amp relay or transistor output

AS-i Fieldbus - "Plug & Play" AS-i connection

They also offer friendly LCD programming interface for easy set-up of the controller and a connection to the process valve via Burkert's Easy LINK. Exceptional design flexibility arises from this direct valve connection. Easy LINK control circuits work independently, eliminating the need for additional wiring from a PLC. Or, if needed, they can be incorporated into a master control network, contributing to an overall reduction in total system cost of ownership.

Available in plastic, brass or stainless steel, these Burkert smart sensors are "custom off-the-shelf" solutions designed to measure, monitor and control pressure, level, flow rate and temperature variables (separately). Wetted surfaces on this series can be stainless steel, Viton, or EPDM. Setpoint values may be entered by hand or remotely from a PLC over a 4-2OmA loop. Burkert's exclusive "TEACH-IN" and "SIMULATE" (test simulation) functions allow setup without actually operating the system, reducing the time and costs for installation and calibration. A large LCD indicates the actual process value digitally, and simultaneously as an analog bar graph for quick reference.

Easy ON/OFF Pressure Control: Type 8311

The lowest-cost solution for simple ON/OFF pressure or level control of most fluid systems, the Burkert Type 8311 Pressure Sensor/Switch is designed to switch a valve, relay or pump and establish an ON/OFF control loop. The sensor may be used to energize a relay or provide transistor output (NPN or PNP) upon any pressure setpoint.

Highly accurate at ±1% of full scale with 0.25% repeatability, the Type 8311 measures line pressure ranges up to 720 psig. Applications include control of air or fluid pressures in tanks, the monitoring of flow pressures in water treatment systems, or control of tank level via hydrostatic head. The sensor/switch body attaches to any pipe with 1/2" NPT fittings. The inline technique provides for easy maintenance and change-out of the sensor without disrupting process flow, reducing installation costs.

Electrical outputs are available as 5-30 VDC or 700 mA signals. Optional relay output is 3 amp 230 VAC or 3 amp 30 VDC programmable. The Type 8311 gives superior long-term performance of 100 million switching cycles minimum.

Easy ON/OFF Flow Control: Type 8032

Available for systems from 1/2" to 2" up to 230-PSI in plastic, brass and stainless steel, the Burkert Type 8032 inline flow sensor has applications in industries where low cost, decentralized control loops are required to maintain a constant flow rate or to monitor min/max values of flow rates. Ideal for applications such as minimum flow pump cooling protection or maximum flow alarms.

The Type 8032 measures flow rates from 0.6 f/s to 30 f/s. The wireless connection to the process in the piping is done with a quarter-turn technique of the inline fittings. The sensor element is totally isolated from process flow, eliminating downtime.

Plastic sensor bodies are available with true union or solvent joints. Brass and stainless steel models offer male or female threaded ports, weld ends, flanges or triclamp fittings. The supply voltage is 12 to 30 VDC.

Easy ON/OFF Temperature Control: Type 8400

Offering ±0.50C accuracy and 0.4% repeatability, the Burkert Type 8400 provides the lowest cost solution for simple ON/OFF temperature control of heating and cooling circuits. Ideal for controlling temperature in systems with moderate to large "dead time", or for "fast switching" of temperature based on desired min/max setpoints.

The Type 8400 measures fluid temperatures from -40°F to +257° F. Applications include both the control of process fluids within a narrow temperature band and the monitoring of min/max levels of temperature in a running process. The fluid or process connection of the sensor/switch is done with a standard G 12, NPT 12, or RC 12 threaded fittings. Supply voltage is 12 to 30 VDC.
