Yokogawa Releases Enhanced DAQSTATION CX1000/CX2000 Style 3 Control and Measurement Stations

- Temperature Control and Management in a Single Unit -

Tokyo, Japan - Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces the release of the DAQSTATION CX1000/CX2000 Style 3. This is an upgrade to the DAQSTATION CX Series control and measurement systems that were first launched in November 2001.

The DAQSTATION CX Series has controllers that integrate a paperless recording function with a control function. The CX series also incorporates an Ethernet interface as a standard networking feature. The CX series is a low cost alternative that is ideal for simplified temperature control and management as well as the recording and monitoring of various types of furnace facilities and small-scale processes.

Background

With furnace facilities such as heat-treating furnaces, drying ovens and food sterilizers, the conventional method for temperature monitoring and data recording has involved the combined use of recorders and temperature controllers. More recently there has been a trend towards the combined use of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and data acquisition and display software programs, a category that is known as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).

One of the main features of the DAQSTATION CX Series lies in its superior cost effectiveness. With a single unit users are easily able to perform control and measurement. There is no need for users to create monitoring windows or to program data acquisitions, which reduces the cost of building an installing a system to half that of a measurement system that uses a PLC and SCADA combination

One other key strength of the CX Series is its powerful networking capability, a feature that will provide ever greater benefits to users as the need for network-compatibility is expected to increase at a growing rate. The following enhancements have been made to the DAQSTATION CX Series at the request of users who require a system with greater flexibility for handling a range of applications.

Enhanced Features of the DAQSTATION CX1000/XC2000 Style 3

1. Support for running individual pattern control

Style3 support individual pattern control for 6-internal loops so that a single DAQSTATION CX station can monitor and control the temperature of multiple furnaces and/or subsystems such as tanks. This simplifies the overall system configuration and reduces cost.

2. Incorporation of a measured/setting value calculation function

In order to support applications that are difficult to handle with one controller and to accommodate a wider range of applications, we have added a function that calculates measured values and preset values in the feedback controls. This supports, for example, a special application in which a furnace's average temperature value is used as the measured value for the furnace's feedback control. Moreover, the CX Series can be used for complicated applications such as carburization furnaces that control temperature while calculating the amount of carbon in the furnace.

3. Addition of a logic calculation function

We have added a function with which users can monitor external signals, measured values, etc., and specify what operations will be carried out by controllers in the event of an abnormal situation or the generation of an alarm. This is a logic calculation function that determines whether a preset condition has been met. For example, to improve safety, an interlocking mechanism can be provided that switches off a heater if the temperature exceeds a certain level. Costs are reduced because there is no need for a PLC.

Features of the DAQSTATION CX Series

1. Easy to build systems

Systems are easy to build because users only need to set the temperature measurement range or the control parameters; they do not need to devote any time to activities such as the creation of windows.

2. Diverse display function

Users can choose which of six display types is most suitable for a specific application. For example, the user may choose a display that is similar to that used with ordinary temperature controllers, trends, alarm histories, or settings. In the program operation window, the CX Series can simultaneously real trends and event statuses of measured values and set values, which is useful in monitoring operation.

3. Reduced wiring and space

With its built-in control function, the CX Series is more compact. In addition, there is an optional RS422-based communication function that allows a user to connect up to 16 temperature controllers. When used with the CX2000, the number of control points can be increased to 22 (6 control points for the CX2000 and 16 control points for the external temperature controllers).

4. Versatile networking functions

The Ethernet-based communication function is a standard feature. With the capabilities provided by a Web server and e-mail, users can add network functionality such as remote monitoring and the generation of an alarm in the event of an abnormal situation.
