Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1100 Controller Gives Manufacturers Online Editing in a Cost-Effective Package

Functionality usually reserved for higher-end controllers allows program modifications without interrupting production

MILWAUKEE, July 28, 2005 - End users and OEMs who need a cost-effective, low-end controller with the flexibility of online editing now have this capability with the new AllenBradley MicroLogix 1100 controller from Rockwell Automation. List priced at only $550, the new controller helps users make program modifications without interrupting operation.

"Manufacturers have been spending thousands of dollars on high-end controllers just to get online editing functionality, and we knew we could provide a better option," said Mike Foley, business development manager, Rockwell Automation. "Our new microcontroller lets users make adjustments to programs, including PID (proportional integral differential) loops, while still online."

An embedded EtherNet/IP communications port in the MicroLogix 1100 controller enables users to easily share data across a production facility, while eliminating the time and costs associated with network wiring. In addition, an embedded Ethernet Web server gives users remote access to control information, further optimizing production efficiency by sharing real-time data on the plant floor with OEM partners or remote maintenance engineers.

The MicroLogix 1100 controller is a cost-effective option for customers seeking distributed control across an Ethernet network, such as in material handling or packaging applications. It also is well-suited for applications using supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) with the MicroLogix 1100 as a remote terminal unit (RTU).

The MicroLogix 1100 controller also includes a built-in, multipurpose text LCD display to provide basic controller and I/O status information. The display provides the ability to monitor and make changes to bit and integer data values from the display, which may eliminate the need for a stand-alone operator interface in many applications.

MicroLogix 1100 controllers will be available beginning in August 2005.
