Controller converts fluid coupling into transmission.

Press Release Summary:

Model PCB microprocessor based circuit board acts as supervisor for company's KPTO fluid coupling. Controller sends analog signals of power and output speed, and digital signals for maximum slip, slip threshold, maximum temperature, maximum and minimum oil pressure, and solenoid valve on/off status. Slip threshold can be set by potentiometer. Controller reduces energy consumption, improves operational safety, processes data, and increases productivity.

Transfluid Introduces PCB Controller For Variable Fill KPTO Fluid Coupling

Las Vegas, March 19 - Transfluid Industrial Transmission's KPTO fluid coupling, widely used in a variety of internal combustion engine applications over the past decade, now is offered with a new electronic controller that makes the KPTO an intelligent transmission.

Markets for the KPTO, which has been designed to combine the features of a power take-off in a fluid coupling, include crushers, grinders, shredders, wood chippers, pumps, fans, compressors, marine propulsion systems, and other heavy-duty, diesel engine powered applications.

The new electronic-controller, Model PCB, is a micro-processor based electronic circuit board designed as a supervisor for the KPTO. It is designed to reduce energy consumption, improve operational safety, process data, and increase productivity.

It emits analog signals of transmitted power (hp and kVW) and output speed, including digital alarm signals of maximum slip, slip threshold, maximum temperature, maximum and minimum oil pressure, and solenoid valve on/off status. Slip threshold can be set by the use of a potentiometer.

The PCB is equipped with an RS-232 serial port for connecting with the interface program. This program can be used for both monitoring data in real time and for programming.

The KPTO design is the result of market demand for a device able to combine aspects of conventional power take-offs with the smooth start-up, damping, overload- absorbing capabilities of a fluid coupling.

The KPTO range includes units for diesel power up to 1700 kW (2300 hp) and offers a variety of options that can be selected to suit the specific application.

Transfluid Industrial Transmissions is headquartered in Pero, Italy, near Milan.

Marketed and supported in North America by Kraft Power, Inc., Transfluid's operations are based at a Kraft Power facility in Lawrenceville, Ga., near Atlanta. Sales of the company's extensive line of oil-activated and mechanical power take-offs, fluid couplings and other off-highway equipment are through the Lawrenceville operation and via a network of distributors throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Kraft Power, formerly W.A. Kraft Corp., is home-based in Woburn, Mass., and, in addition to its Lawrenceville facility, has operations in New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
