Original Press Release:

Controller and Development Tool for Field Devices Expand Profinet Range

A new CPU for the Simatic S7-300 controller and a Development Kit for field devices expand the range of Profinet products from Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D). The new CPU 315-2 PN/DP with Profinet interface supplements the high-performance CPU 317-2 PN/DP for applications in the mid-range. The Profinet interface is used for Industrial Ethernet communication at the cell level as well as for connecting I/O devices and field devices with a Profinet interface, such as the Simatic ET 200S distributed I/O station. Profibus devices are connected via an additional Profibus interface. This also makes the Profinet CPUs suitable as routers from the Ethernet to Profibus.

With the Step 7 engineering tool, the CPUs can be programmed over Ethernet from a central programming device or PC. The field devices connected to the lower-level Profibus can also be accessed from a central point. Profinet field devices, such as I/O devices, are developed quickly with the Development Kit. It includes a CD-ROM with the relevant software and a license providing authorization for both the development and the production of a single product line.
