Control Unit safeguards machinery operations.

Press Release Summary:

Model RE 4000 combines with Model RE 300 safety switch to provide non-contact, fail safe operation and protection against tampering. It enables individual monitoring of up to 6 safety interlocks, each with status indication, from single control. Manually adjustable between 0-15 seconds, time delay function provides output signal for emergency stopping, under control, mechanical interlock switches, and for interfacing with PLCs and PC controllers.

New Control Unit from SICK Opens the Door for Reliable, Non-Contact Safeguarding In Complex Machinery

LAS VEGAS - PackExpo 2003 - October 13, 2003 - SICK, the global leader in factory and process automation solutions, announced today its new control unit for safeguarding operations on larger and more complicated machinery. The new RE 4000 control unit from SICK combines with the company's unique RE 300 safety switch system to offer machine builders and users even greater levels of operator safeguarding, improved guard monitoring and easier machine integration. The combination provides a higher level of reliability for larger and/or more complicated machines where multiple guard interlock functions and higher, dual channel levels of safety, may be required - all at a reduced cost per door.

The RE 4000 improves upon the unique functionality of the magnetically coded RE 300 system to deliver unmatched levels of non-contact reliability, protection against defeat by tampering, and fail safe operation. The unit achieves this by enabling the individual monitoring of up to six safety interlocks, each with its own status indication, from a single control unit. The RE 4000 control unit also takes advantage of the RE 300 system's ability to accept misalignment of its actuator and sensor, which means that the safety switch can make allowances for guards when they become out-of-line as a result of wear.

Machine builders and end users will be pleased with the considerable flexibility in machine safety circuit design afforded by the RE 4000. Now, with the addition of a time delay output, the RE 4000 can achieve even more. Manually adjustable between 0-15 seconds, the time delay function expands the capabilities of the RE 300 system by providing an additional output signal that can be used for emergency stopping, under control, mechanical interlock switches, and for interfacing with PLCs and industrial PC controllers. This high level of functionality is further complemented by the provision of the six inputs. These enable the RE 300 to function in true dual channel safety systems, providing added levels of operator safeguarding, and the ability to replace a safety relay.

The RE 4000 control unit from SICK has the highest safety rating, with CAT 4 approval based on EN 954-1, as well as TUV and cULus approvals.
