Beckhoff Adds TwinCAT Backup
Beckhoff takes PC Based Control reliability, ease of use and upgradeability to a new level with TwinCAT Backup. TwinCAT Backup is a tool which allows easy transfer of all critical data from one PC Controller to another. With TwinCAT Backup identical PC hardware is not necessary. This allows customers to leverage the latest PC technology while reducing their cost of change. It also allows for easy replacement of one controller to another. For example, one PC could have an ISA Profibus card or DeviceNet card while the replacement PC only has the newer PCI versions. Or, the replacement PC could be a Pentium 4 socket 478 and have a newer operating system such as Windows XP. Before TwinCAT Backup, computer hard drives were "imaged" or "ghost" to create backups. However, images require identical hardware and by nature the O.S. is identical. TwinCAT runs as a normal program in Windows and will automatically perform full and incremental data backups. The backup data can include TwinCAT data and program files, computer name, network settings, and other critical programs such as the HMI or SCADA software.
