Tyco Flow Control Introduces Westlock XR Controller

Versatile Control Monitor Offers Dynamic Baseline Signature and Real-Time Reports on Pressure Conditions of Valve Assemblies, Reducing Downtime and Increasing Efficiency

Princeton, N.J. - Nov. 26, 2007 - Tyco Flow Control announces the Westlock XR® linear/rotary control monitor, the industry's first versatile, stand-alone field device that includes patent-pending technology required to create a dynamic baseline signature. The Westlock XR also uses state-of-the art technology to provide a host of other features for valve actuation applications while remaining compatible with all types of installation in a broad range of process industries.

From the non-contact sensor for positioning to the fully encapsulated electronics modules for detailed Automated Valve Package performance information, the XR is intelligently designed to convey critical information to process managers quickly and in a wide range of formats. The XR controller's patent-pending technology captures the variables required to develop a pressure profiling baseline dynamically - while in service. Additionally, its alarm logic uses enhanced technology to provide more meaningful alarms when there are changes in process conditions.

"The Westlock XR combines innovation with functionality, giving our automated valve process users diagnostic insight enabling them to reduce downtime, better manage their operations and increase plant efficiency and safety," said Leo Minervini, vice president of engineering for Westlock Controls, a division of Tyco Flow Control. "Our customers demand the latest technologies and this product is an example of our commitment to provide intelligent valve control packages that positively impact the bottom line for our customers."

Westlock XR is calibrated, commissioned, interrogated and maintained via an associated software package called XRa. Together these two items provide valve control, monitoring and diagnostic information, including performance comparison graphs in real time, either via a network, local RS232 port or wireless communication, on a discrete installation. The field device, coupled with the XRa software, also will enable service engineers to download data from the device and upload this data to a Valve Asset Management tool.

This controller also can provide Emergency Shut Down (ESD) monitoring and Partial Stroke Testing (PST) capabilities that are time and date stamped and validated, in order to increase plant safety and provide authenticated evidence of these actions if required. In regards to compatibility, a Device Type Manager (DTM) is also under development based on HART, Profibus and Foundation Fieldbus.

Benefits and features of the Westlock XR include:
o Dynamic Baseline Signature vs. On-Line Signature - eliminate the need to place a valve off-line to diagnose an issue (patent-pending technology)
o Intelligent Alarm Management System - eliminate nuisance alarms
o Performance Analysis - use intuitive pass/fail score card to predict and prevent actuated valve failures
o Air Bearing Spool Design - proven reliability
o Integrated Pressure Sensors - develop accurate, real-time data for valve signatures algorithms and functional alarms
o Fully Encapsulated Electronics Module - communicate asset management and diagnostic data
o Non-Contact Position Sensor - eliminate linkages, levers and rotary or linear seals while providing accurate and repeatable position control and feedback
