Selco's New Configurable Controls Feature Turn-Key Design Solutions and Multiple Application Uses, Providing Faster Product Development Cycles and Reduced Inventory Costs

ANAHEIM, Calif. - June 1, 2004 - Selco/ECC has introduced the Configurable Controls 5000 Series, offering versatile multifunctional digital/analog measurement and control for voltage, current, temperature and other input. Because of its wide ranging flexibility, the Configurable Controls 5000 Series can be used in a virtually unlimited range of applications, including commercial and residential appliances, heating and air conditioning, spas, industrial, and environmental equipment.

Offering high accuracy and reliability, the Configurable Controls 5000 Series incorporates a processor, power source, and multiple input and outputs, depending on model. The heart of the design lies with the pre-manufactured PC board and a variety of plug-and-play application software. With the hardware already in place, only time for individual software customization may be required. Boards can be supplied with factory-programmed application software or blank and ready to be configured. By eliminating the hardware board design step, OEM product development cycles are significantly reduced, providing faster product delivery to market.

Additional benefits are derived from the ability of a single control to be used for multiple applications. Customers can use software for one application, program it into their computer, then change the software for another application, significantly reducing inventory and associated costs.

The new Controls are equipped with a separate front operator panel that displays numbers, indicators, pushbuttons, switches or pots. Designed with circuitry to support buttons and lights, the operator panel communicates with the Control boards through a two-wire serial interface, allowing a high degree of interchange-ability between the Controls and the operator panels. Custom panels can be developed to create unique product aesthetics.

The Configurable Controls feature an onboard 10 Amp relay, 1 Amp solid state relay and external solid state relay. Large output ports include onboard 30 Amp relay and 3 Amp solid state relay. Other features include a built-in thermistor temperature sensor circuit and connector, up to 16K maximum program storage space of the microprocessor chip, built-in beeper, onboard pushbuttons, onboard programmable LED indicators with general function, and UL and CSA approval, if needed. Pre-set factory voltages of 110/220VAC or 12-24VAC/DC power to the controller allow the user to select from either voltage.

"By offering such unlimited control capabilities in a turn-key package, the Configurable Controls 5000 Series allows manufacturers to more quickly bring cutting-edge products to market while reducing product development costs," said Russell Kido, Selco/ECC Product Manager.

The new series is available in three models - single input with dual output (Model 5003), dual input and output (Model 5002), and triple input and multiple outputs (Model 5001), allowing selection of the appropriate control to match a given level of application sophistication. The Controls measure 2.7" x 3.7" (Model 5003) and 4.2" x 4.9" (Model 5001). Pricing is from $80.00 each in production quantities and varies due to configuration of control and application.
