Original Press Release:

Screen Announces Commercialization of a New Truepress - Truepress Jet520HD High-Definition Inkjet Web Press - at Screen Media Day 2014

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. — Screen USA has announced commercialization of a new continuous-feed, high-resolution inkjet press — Truepress Jet520HD. The Truepress Jet520HD introduces a completely new design, including paper transport, drying techniques, printheads, screening and wide-gamut inks that have never before been used in continuous-feed inkjet.

As an expansion of the Truepress Jet520 family, the new press will have its North American debut at Screen’s Media Day 2014 event, taking place September 27 at the Screen headquarters in Rolling Meadows, Ill. Those attending Media Day will get the first glimpse of this game-changing, high-definition, up-to-six-color press.

With a maximum true resolution of 1,200 dpi x 1,200 dpi and using a grayscale head to provide apparent resolution of 2,400 dpi x 2,400 dpi, the Truepress Jet520HD provides a never-before-seen quality level in continuous-feed inkjet, making possible production of high-end publication and commercial work and direct mail programs. This increase in print quality allows the Truepress Jet520HD to clearly image detail smaller than 1/10th of a point, allowing offset/digital hybrid and toner-based work to move to lower-cost, continuous-feed full-color inkjet.

High-density pigments for each color give more vibrant hues, expanded process color gamut and smoother solid area ink coverage, achieving densities extremely close to offset across all colors. Using such high-density ink allows the operator to choose between printing with the highest quality or minimize cost by using less ink than is needed by current inkjet technologies.

And the newly designed transport not only offers a near-automatic web threading procedure but also allows these inks to dry on both coated and uncoated stocks from 40 gsm to 250 gsm.

This all equates to new opportunities to use continuous-feed inkjet for high-end applications that were previously impossible, including personalized direct mail, publications and textbooks, while still allowing for cost-effective production of billing and statements on the same press.

An enhanced version of the Equios workflow fronts the press to allow for increased production benefits, not only automating job and color management but also providing in-RIP imposition, JDF communication and PDF/VT support.

An important dimension of the Truepress Jet520HD is the flexible range of output resolutions, speeds and print densities — 1,200 dpi x 1,200 dpi, 1,200 dpi x 600 dpi and 600 dpi x 600 dpi — coupled with operator controls that will offer production value to match the requirements of the job. And within the press is a new evolution of Screen’s proven scanning technology, capable of up to 1,200 dpi analysis of printhead health to optimize print quality at all of these speeds.

The Truepress Jet520 series is the world’s most successful high-speed, variable data inkjet web press. And because the focus of the development for the Truepress Jet520HD has been on increasing the market applications for high-speed inkjet, the new machine will not replace, but supplement the current family of Truepress Jet520s. The entire Truepress Jet520 series still offers excellent value, and Screen continues to sell, install, service and support the entire line from the Truepress Jet520EX (210 feet per minute in full color) to the Truepress Jet520ZZ (721 feet per minute in full color). All presses in the series feature 6.4-inch to over 20-inch paper width. The piezo drop-on-demand inkjet heads print using continuous grayscale technology result in increased detail and apparent resolution and decreased ink usage.
