Continuous Dust Monitor helps meet EPA's MATS rules.

Press Release Summary:

With minimum range of 0–15 mg/m³, Model 4650-PM helps US power plants meet EPA’s Mercury and Air Toxics Standards for particulate matter measurement. Design is based on QAL1 certified, forward-scattering laser technology. Monitor offers variable insertion depth and has no continuously moving parts. Operating in temperatures up to 480°F, Model 4650-PM is suitable for PM-Continuous Emission Monitoring and PM-Continuous Parametric Monitoring in dry stacks where condensed water is not present.

Ametek Land Launches MATS Particulate Matter Monitor

AMETEK LAND has launched the 4650-PM Continuous Dust Monitor, a proven technology in Europe that will help US power plants to meet the EPA’s new Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) for particulate matter measurement.

The US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new MATS rules sets particulate matter (PM) limits for coal and oil-fired EGUs (Electricity Generating Units).

4650-PM is suitable for both PM-CEMS (PM-Continuous Emission Monitoring) and PM-CPMS (PM - Continuous Parametric Monitoring System) in dry stacks where condensed water is not present.

AMETEK Land’s 4650-PM has a minimum range of 0-15 mg/m3, which allows it to fully meet the requirements of the MATS rule. The design of 4650-PM is based on QAL1 certified, highly accurate forward-scattering laser technology that has been proven to be highly effective at measuring PM in Europe since 2009.

Patented technology incorporated into 4650-PM is therefore capable of exceeding all American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements. Its large-area collection optics and stable optical design allow it to achieve a detection limit < 0.1 mg/m3.

4650-PM, which is made in the UK, offers variable insertion depth and has no continuously moving parts for excellent reliability. It is able to operate in a wide range of stack temperatures up to 480 °F as standard (higher temperature options available on request). Advances in connectivity means that is it compatible with TCP-IP Ethernet, RS485, 4-20 mA outputs and is supplied with multiple display modes and a large graphics screen with intuitive menus.

Derek Stuart, Product Manager - Combustion and Environmental at AMETEK Land, said: “Implementation of the new MATS regulations in the USA will require extensive upgrades of air pollution control and measuring equipment at coal and oil-fired EGUs. Our 4650-PM is highly effective at measuring low-levels of particulate matter because it incorporates technology that has proven itself in Europe over the last few years.”

AMETEK Land’s 4650-PM is manufactured to ISO 9000 quality standards and meets PS-11 requirements.
