RipCode Introduces TransAct Monetizer to Support Real-Time, Automatic Ad Insertion and Accelerate Monetization of Video Content

Integration of Transaction-Based Advertising and On-Demand Transcoding Eases Delivery of Relevant, Localized Dynamic Ads to a Wide Range of Video-Enabled Devices

LAS VEGAS, April 1 -- CTIA 2009, Booth No. 7062 - RipCode, Inc., the leader in transactional video transcoding, today introduces the TransAct Monetizer to enable the real-time insertion of Internet and mobile video advertising while easing content monetization for ad networks, content owners, video delivery platforms and network/content service providers. The TransAct Monetizer is the latest addition to the company's TransAct Platform of transaction-based transcoding solutions, which reduce the costs and complexities of optimizing video delivery across three different screens--mobile, desktop and IPTV.

According to a 2008 Harris Interactive study on Consumer Acceptance of Mobile Advertising, mobile advertising is poised to gain a substantial foothold with consumers. More than half of teens and over a third of adults surveyed in a nationwide poll indicated they would be interested in viewing mobile ads that were personalized or included incentives. The challenge for legacy transcoding solutions is their inability to customize advertisements, since they typically are pre-transcoded and then manually "stitched" together with content before being delivered to consumers. RipCode replaces manual ad assembly with on-the-fly ad insertion capabilities that provide unprecedented flexibility in segmenting, personalizing and localizing advertisements.

Additional ad insertion innovations provided by RipCode's TransAct Monetizer include:

-- Seamless pre-roll and post-roll ad insertion;
-- Elimination of re-buffering between ad content and user-requested content;
-- Policy-based playback control;
-- Dynamic tracking and reporting of key metrics for monetization auditing; and
-- Standards-based XML API to facilitate integration with advertising management systems.

"The key to effective video content monetization is delivering tailored advertising based on the content that viewers request as well as their profile, location, time and experience quality," explains Brendon Mills, CEO for RipCode. "Our customers will be able to leverage RipCode's TransAct Monetizer to advance the effectiveness of mobile advertising by enabling highly relevant ads to be seamlessly inserted on-demand. In doing so, they will be able to create the most compelling user experience while providing advertisers with a much better return on investment for their ad dollars."

Additionally, seamless integration with RipCode's TransAct Detector maximizes advertiser value by ensuring that ad delivery is optimized for viewing on a broad range of video-enable devices. This complementary application helps content owners and syndicators create a superior end-user mobile video experience by accurately identifying device characteristics, including resolution, bit rate, frame rate, codec, geo-location and carrier identification pinpoints.

According to Greg Ireland, research manager, consumer markets: video for IDC, transcoding technologies are undergoing fundamental changes as video content distribution and consumption grows and becomes more complex. "The rapid rate of market maturation is causing significant shifts in video delivery, especially as new business models and monetization opportunities emerge," he says. "With its transaction-based transcoding platform and dynamic ad insertion solution, RipCode is well positioned to meet the escalating demands for personalization and location-based services, which will drive increased content/ad combinations."

RipCode's new TransAct Monetizer is available now and is priced at $30k USD for a single software application which can scale to support up to 22 TransAct Transcoders. Visit www.RipCode.com or stop by CTIA Wireless booth #7062 for more information.
