Consolidators and Agents Have More Control Over PNRs, Booking Sources and Data Privacy with Worldspan

ATLANTA, Aug. 21 / -- Global travel technology provider Worldspan, L.P. has introduced key system enhancements designed to improve workflow between travel consolidators and the agents who book their fares. Consolidators now have new options that restrict the view of proprietary fare data and discount numbers as transactions move through the booking and procurement process. The functionalities are cost-free and available to Worldspan subscribers globally.

"Worldspan is committed to developing solutions that support the unique requirements of consolidators and their sub-agents," said Kathy Fitzpatrick, Worldspan vice president -- North America Sales and Worldwide Travel Supplier Solutions. "These enhancements give our customers more tools to improve profitability and productivity in the distribution chain."

Consolidator Control Reduces Airline Debit Memos:
A new Consolidator Control capability allows a Worldspan consolidator and a booking agent to share control of a single Worldspan passenger name record (PNR) containing airline segments. Once the consolidator tickets a PNR received from the booking agent, the consolidator can assume full PNR functionality. This reduces exposure for consolidators by restricting actions that would invalidate the ticketed fare. Booking agents continue to retain the ability to manage car rental, hotel or other non-air segments within the same PNR, as well as issue itinerary invoices, reconcile the PNR with the back office and more. Consolidator Control reduces the need for consolidators or agents to build passive (duplicate) bookings to gain the control they need to work a PNR.

"Consolidator Control is a vital capability that will help us avoid the time and stress of attempting to recover the costs of airline debit memos," said Akshay Shah, vice president of Marketing at Skybird Travel, a Worldspan consolidator customer based in Southfield, Mich. "We are also very pleased that we can invoke this process with one easy entry in the PNR."

Confidential Fare Remarks Protect Consolidator Fare Data: Worldspan- connected consolidators have expanded data protection functionality through Confidential Fare Remarks. By adding a remark in the PNR, consolidators can block the view of proprietary airfare data in PNR displays, ticketing records, document histories and other displays. They will also have the ability to specify where fare data restrictions apply, so that viewing is restricted for designated locations.

Hotel System Adds Controls for Booking Source and Corporate Discount Numbers: Worldspan's Hotel Select system brings more advanced automation that benefits consolidators, travel agencies and hotels suppliers. A new Booking Source field provides a means to identify the booking agent in all sell messages transmitted to hotel suppliers. This capability simplifies commission tracking for all parties. Another new feature provides additional security by allowing subscribers to mask their discount numbers from view, including in booked hotel segments, PNR displays, itinerary invoices and historical documentation, thereby protecting their proprietary rates and competitive offerings.
