MRV Communications Debuts Out-of-Band Management System with High Density, Strengthened Redundancy and Security

LX 4000T Family Becomes MRV's Flagship Console Server Platform for Enterprises and Service Providers

CHATSWORTH, Calif., June 28 -- MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (NASDAQ:MRVC), a leading provider of products and services for out-of-band networking, WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE and other service aware networking products, today announced the LX 4000T, a new family of RoHS-compliant console servers with redundancy and security features necessary for the out-of-band networking needs of both enterprises and carriers.

LX 4000T servers are available in eight-, 16-, 32- and 48-port models, and are optimized to provide secure out-of-band device configuration and management capabilities even during network outages. To maximize uptime, all models come with dual 10/100 Ethernet connections for back-up network connections. Dual power supply models are also available in all port sizes to ensure higher redundancy, and all power and other connectors are on one side of the unit for simplified installation.

Secure data transmission standards are built into LX 4000T servers. The devices support the FIPS-140-2 cryptographic standard that is mandatory for U.S. and Canadian government applications. A full range of security features and protocols are also built-in, including per-port passwords, SSH v2.0, RADIUS, SecurID, TACACS+, PPP PAP/CHAP, PPP dial back, built-in database and user access lists. The family is future-proofed with support for next-generation protocols like SNMP V3 and IPv6.

The new servers will become MRV's flagship console server line, integrating features from both the LX 4000 enterprise servers and the LX 8000 service-provider products. Required by the European Union, RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) legislation requires that electrical and electronic equipment manufacturers reduce the use of certain hazardous substances by July 2006.

"More companies are using out-of-band networking to minimize the cost of downtime, reduce risk and increase service levels," said Mary Jane Gruninger, general manager of the Out-of-Band Networking division. "With the introduction of these new servers, MRV is making state-of-the art security and redundancy features available to all of our customers."

A key function of the LX 4000T is user access logging which provides details on who accesses key computing and networking devices, and can be used to trace unauthorized access and help meet Federal government compliance requirements including the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) or Sarbanes-Oxley.

The LX 4000T product family also supports physical infrastructure control and monitoring applications. Each 4000T series serial port can support two sensor inputs or two control outputs, with sophisticated trigger/action controls that can be customized for the specific notification and control needs of an organization.

For service providers, DC-power versions are available and will be certified to meet the NEBS safety guidelines.

Pricing and Availability

The LX 4000T is currently available from MRV and its resellers worldwide. U.S. list price ranges from $1,595 to $5,445. More information will be available at www.mrv.com.
