Considering the Low-Maintenance Building Solution

Product maintenance is a wise consideration for all building investments. The Chester County Parks Recreation Department in Pennsylvania selected an Easi-Set Precast Concrete Building for a recent comfort station installation in Hibernia Park because the building requires low maintenance and can withstand whatever its natural surroundings throw at it. The 900-acre Hibernia Park is filled with trails, play areas, pavilions and camping and picnic areas among the meadows, creeks and ponds, open fields and woodlands.

Easton, Pa.-based Oldcastle Precast Inc., a licensed Easi-Set producer, manufactured the 18’-5” x 23’-4” building. The exterior wall features Vertical Barn Board over Ashlar Stone with Neutral Balance Tan over Muddy Gray colors, and the precast concrete roof has a custom Cedar Shake texture in Autumn Brown color.

“This roof option was chosen instead of standard fiberglass shingles to resist damage from overhead tree branches, reducing maintenance needs,” notes Dave Worthington, manager of the Easi-Set Buildings Division at Oldcastle Precast.

The restroom’s exterior walls also were designed with ThermoMass R-10 insulation sandwiched between concrete wythes. This system allows the park staff to wash the concrete walls without damaging the insulation, and it withstands abuse, a quality other manufacturers do not offer.

The comfort station has both men’s and women’s restroom facilities. The men’s has two toilets, one urinal and two sinks; the women’s has three toilets and two sinks. Electric outlets were added at the sink area in each room for overnight camper convenience. With this restroom addition, the visitor experience has improved at Hibernia Park while the park officials have a low-maintenance, durable, easy-to-clean, all precast concrete building solution.
