Heavy-Duty Connector Accomodates High-Volume, Economical Manufacturing
HARRISBURG, Pa., September 4- Tyco Electronics recently introduced the HTS HD Series connector. The HTS HD Series connector is a modular connector system comprised of a rugged rectangular outer shell made from die cast zinc or aluminum, a robust inner contact housing and high performance Multimate contacts. Multimate contacts employ a pin and socket design that is either stamped and formed or screw-machined. HTS HD Series connectors are available in different housing sizes and accommodate from 7 to 128 contacts. Applications for this connector include industrial machinery, molding equipment, automated processing equipment and other industrial applications where a durable outer-shell and heavy-duty contact system is necessary.
Multimate pin and socket contacts allow manufacturers to reap the benefits of high-speed production methods. For example, when using the AMP-O-LECTRIC Model G Press, up to 800 pin and socket contacts can be terminated to wire in an hour. In contrast, other heavy-duty rectangular connectors rely on loose-piece contacts that can only be terminated with hand tools, a considerably slower manufacturing process. Multimate pin and socket contacts are available on reels with up to 4,000 contacts per reel. An insulation crimp provides strain relief to the wire and the construction of the contact retention provides precise, repeatable insertion into the contact housing. Multimate pin and socket contacts are made from copper alloy and finished with gold or tin plating.
HTS HD Series connectors, with Multimate contacts, are rated for 250 VAC at 10 A per contact. The contacts accept 30 to 14 AWG stranded wire.
Pricing, for a pin and socket Multimate stamped and formed contact in low volume is approximately $0.25 for the pin and the socket. Delivery is generally less than one week on standard parts. HTS HD Series housings are priced at approximately $6.75 each in low volume. Delivery is typically less than 3 weeks.
