Confirma Advances Computer-Aided-Detection for Breast MRI with Change Control Software from Solidcore

Solidcore S3 Control Software Bolsters CADstream Uptime and Security

NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 26 // -- At the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference, Solidcore(R) Systems, Inc., a leader in change control software for critical systems, today announced that Confirma(TM), the leader in computer-aided-detection (CAD) for breast MRI, is integrating Solidcore's S3 Control(TM) software with the CADstream(TM) system. The integration will provide CADstream with improved uptime, increased security and reduced maintenance costs by preventing unauthorized changes and code from executing on the CADstream system.

CADstream, the standard in CAD for breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), has gained widespread acceptance for automating data analysis, improving image management and providing scalable workflow options. The product is instrumental in assisting radiologists with the analysis, reporting and interventional guidance of breast MRI studies. CADstream is designed for any workflow scenario, integrating with existing equipment and providing access to studies anywhere on the network. With a rapidly growing installed base, Confirma must ensure that CADstream maintains the highest level of operational integrity, uptime, and security when operating in women's imaging centers.

Solidcore S3 Control software will enable Confirma to securely manage and control installed CADstream systems. The software runs transparently on CADstream systems to prevent unauthorized, out-of-policy software changes that could cause system downtime. With Solidcore S3 Control, Confirma will be able to further reduce field maintenance activities and unapproved software modifications, and streamline future CADstream software installations. Solidcore ensures that only software updates and changes authorized by Confirma are applied to CADstream. Solidcore S3 Control will also eliminate the need to maintain and run processor intensive anti-virus software applications by the customer.

"Physicians rely on CADstream every day for their breast MRI studies, and we recognize that our customers cannot afford to have unauthorized changes compromise our system integrity and availability," said Paul Budak, vice president of research and development, Confirma. "Integrating Solidcore S3 Control into CADstream will improve CADstream security, availability and support."

S3 Control software for Embedded Systems is a small footprint, low- overhead change control solution. The product quickly installs to provide protection against changes generated by unauthorized sources, and can be utilized to enforce the control requirements for Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Sarbanes- Oxley, PCI, and other regulatory mandates. Solidcore's S3 Control solution provides benefits to both healthcare practitioners and medical device manufacturers. Healthcare practitioners achieve higher availability, better security and out-of-the-box compliance for their in-hospital systems. Device manufacturers like Confirma benefit from having a competitive differentiation that gives them higher system availability with their offering and reduced support costs normally incurred from continuous servicing of devices.

"Change control is essential for any medical device manufacturer, providing complete control over what is allowed to change on those critical systems," said Jim Sarale, vice president of embedded solutions for Solidcore. "Solidcore's automated change policy enforcement capabilities enable device manufacturers to harden the operating system and prevent any out-of-policy changes that would otherwise create costly system outages and support calls."

About Confirma, Inc.

Confirma, Inc. develops and markets CAD systems and accessories for medical imaging. CADstream(TM) is the standard in CAD for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). CADstream automates the analysis and interventional guidance of MRI studies, providing higher quality imaging studies, lower costs for radiology practices and improved communication tools for physicians and patients. In its initial application, CADstream is being used to assist in the analysis, interventional guidance and reporting of breast MRI studies. CADstream is DICOM 3.0 compliant, allowing integration with any MRI scanner and PACS. The company plans to adapt its proven CAD technology to advance other medical imaging applications.

Confirma has established partnerships with companies including GE Healthcare, Philips Medical Systems, Hologic, iCAD and Vital Images. Confirma has partnered with hundreds of imaging centers and corporate partners worldwide since 2003, helping develop more standardized, high performance breast MRI programs that deliver premium patient care. Confirma Europe GmbH opened operations recently in Berlin to further develop the European market. Frost & Sullivan recently recognized Confirma with the 2006 Industry Innovation and Advancement Award for the U.S. CAD market. For more information, visit www.confirma.com or call (877) 811-2356.
