Conductive Thermoplastics provide EMI shielding/grounding.

Press Release Summary:

PREMIER(TM) molded plastic parts offer proprietary dispersion of nickel-plated carbon fibers in user's choice of resin matrices. Evenly dispersed, randomly oriented fibers permit integration of shielding into housings without additional processing steps. Providing greater than 90 dB of EMI shielding performance, thermoplastics resist abrasion and corrosion. Parts can be molded in wall thicknesses less than 0.030 in. for maximum geometric flexibility.

New Conductive Plastics Provide Higher Shielding at Reduced Cost

OCTOBER 4, 2002, WOBURN, MASSACHUSETTS -- Chomerics, a division of the Parker Hannifin Corporation, has introduced PREMIER(TM) conductive thermoplastics for high performance EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding and grounding in electronic devices. PREMIER molded plastic parts feature a proprietary dispersion of long, nickel-plated carbon fibers in a choice of resin matrices. The high content of evenly dispersed, randomly oriented fibers permits integration of shielding into housings without additional processing steps such as plating, painting or vacuum coating.

PREMIER conductive plastic materials provide high levels (> 90 dB) of EMI shielding performance. The long fiber manufacturing process dramatically improves on previous methods of producing conductive plastics in which short-milled or chopped fibers were susceptible to breakdown and inconsistent fiber-to-fiber contact.

PREMIER plastic parts are strong, lightweight, and resistant to abrasion and corrosion. They provide high levels of tensile, flexural and impact strength. Parts can be molded in wall thicknesses less than 0.8 mm (0.030 in.) for maximum geometric flexibility. PREMIER shielding readily incorporates multiple compartments in a single part. This capability affords dramatic cost reductions over traditional isolation shielding methods such as soldered-on metal cans.

Chomerics molds and ships PREMIER plastic parts worldwide from the Americas, Asia and Europe. There are no concerns of supply chain locations or multiple vendors. If required, Chomerics can integrate gaskets and inserts in-house on any part design. Chomerics also provides certified, functional testing for digital protocols, including GSM, TDMA, CDMA, and CDMA-2000.
