Xycom Automation's Pro-Face Brand PL-X920 Delivers High Performance and Reliability

Saline, MI - February 13, 2002 - Xycom Automation, Inc., a subsidiary of Pro-face America, Inc. and a market leader in Industrial PCs, announces the release of the Pro-face brand PL-X920 Series. The PL-X920 Series is designed to meet the demands for reliable operation of PC applications on factory floors offering high performance with a number of reliability features in compact body packages, as well as standard touch panel operation.

All-in-one models of the PL-X920 Series are updated with the PentiumÂ® III 700MHz CPU, 128MB RAM, 10Base-T/100Base-TX, and USB. The PL-6920T comes with a 12-inch SVGA TFT display with enhanced brightness and four ISA/PCI expansion slots, while the PL-6921T has two expansion slots for compactness. The PL-7920T is equipped with a 15-inch XGA TFT display with four expansion slots, and the PL-7921T has two expansion slots. All PL-X920 models support WindowsÂ® 95, WindowsÂ® 98, WindowsÂ® 2000, and Windows NTÂ®.

In addition to the all-in-one-units, a box PC (unit without integrated display) is available. Like the PL-X920 integrated units, two expansion options are offered. The PL-B920 units connect to a standard VGA monitor or the PL-DU6900 and PL-DU7900. These 12-inch and 15-inch monitors connect to a box PC via a single digital cable solution that includes video, touchscreen, and USB. Optional connection distances up to 10 meters are also available. The PL-DU series monitors use the same mounting as their integrated counterpart.

The most unique feature of the PL-X920 Series is the cartridge-type IDE drive slots for the HDD, FDD, and CF-card drives. Up to two drive systems can be selected for simultaneous operation. The drive slots allow user-selection of the most suitable configuration of drive systems for applications, as well as minimized replacement and maintenance time for valuable data on the storage devices. Furthermore, data mirroring is available on all PL-X920 models with the optional Software Mirroring Utility when used with Windows NTÂ® or WindowsÂ® 2000. Important production data can be automatically saved on two hard disk drives. If a problem occurs on an HDD, the PL operation will be switched to another HDD without stopping operation. The damaged disk can be replaced at the next maintenance time or whenever convenient for the user.

For reliability, the RAS (Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) feature is on all PL-X920 models. The RAS feature monitors the PL's internal operation conditions. When abnormal data from preset values is detected on the PL unit, an output signal turns on a lamp or buzzer to alert operators.

All PL-X920 models are physically compatible with the previous PL-X900 models in means of panel cutout and external dimensions. Systems with the previous PL units can be updated or maintained using the latest PL-X920 Series with minimal checks and changes, if required.
