Rockwell Automation Enhances Functionality of Allen-Bradley RAC6181 Industrial Computer

New options offer increased speed, reliability and expandability in rugged environments

MILWAUKEE, April 15, 2002 - To provide high power and long-term performance in challenging industrial environments, Rockwell Automation has enhanced its Allen-Bradley RAC6181 Industrial Computer. Designed to withstand the hazards of the factory floor, the compact RAC6181 now offers power and expandability comparable to a full-sized industrial computer:

- 12.1-inch Keypad Bezel - With flat panel display for enhanced operator interface and an optional touch screen, the new 12.1-inch keypad bezel version features programmable function keys and a numeric keypad for increased flexibility.

- Pentium® III and Celeron® CPU Cards - For faster performance, the RAC6181 comes with the choice of 600MHz or 866MHz Pentium III CPU cards, or 566MHz Celeron CPU cards.

- 4-slot Chassis - For applications requiring expansion, the optional 4-slot chassis adds an additional PCI and ISA slot to the previous 2-slot configuration, for a total of 2 PCI slots, 1 ISA slot, and 1 shared PCI/ISA slot, while only adding 1-2 inches of depth to the unit.

The RAC6181 can be used for machine-level and factory-level applications, and is ideal for visualization, maintenance and control functions. The computer is well suited for industries such as automotive, pulp and paper, food and beverage, petrochemical and process where harsh environmental conditions can easily destroy traditional desktop computers.

For visualization applications, the computer uses RSView(TM) Machine Edition or RSView Supervisory Edition software to collect and display critical information. By connecting a RAC6181 client computer to a RAC6180 or RAC6155 server, users can simplify machine troubleshooting and maintenance. The RAC6181 can also be used to access key information on the server, and access the Internet, to update a single machine or an entire process from anywhere on the plant floor. For PC-based control, the RAC6181 can be used as part of a SoftLogix(TM) control solution.
