Compressor Monitors check pressure and position.

Press Release Summary:

Model 3500/72M Rod Position Monitor uses correlative measurements to confirm if excessive movement is due to rider band wear or other problems such as crosshead looseness or rod runout. Model 3500/77M Cylinder Pressure Monitor uses pressure transducers located on each chamber of cylinder, collecting pressure data and crankshaft position to provide information on condition of valves, piston rings, packing glands, and crosshead pin.

Bently Nevada Offers Comprehensive Monitoring For Recips

MINDEN, 10 JANUARY 2002 - Bently Nevada announces the latest additions to its broad range of offerings for reciprocating compressor monitoring. The 3500/72M Rod Position Monitor and the 3500/77M Cylinder Pressure Monitor represent two very important measurements for reciprocating compressors. The 3500/72M is the third-generation of rod position monitor from Bently Nevada. Rather than attribute all rod movement to rider band wear, it uses correlative measurements to confirm if excessive movement is due to other problems such as crosshead looseness or rod runout.

Examining the cylinder pressure profile is widely considered the best method of determining the overall health of a reciprocating gas compressor. The new 3500/77M Cylinder Pressure Monitor uses permanently installed pressure transducers located on each chamber of the cylinder, collecting pressure data along with crankshaft position to obtain both continuous and performance data. On-line access to the internal pressure for each cylinder on the compressor provides valuable information on the condition of the valves, piston rings, packing glands, and the crosshead pin.

"Reliability problems in reciprocating machinery are demanding top priority with plant operations and maintenance organizations. These problems can restrict production by 30% or more while absorbing a large part of the maintenance budget," says Bently Nevada President and Chief Operating Officer, Roger Harker. "Bently Nevada has responded to this pressing need with our comprehensive offering of monitor modules in the 3500 Series Machinery Protection System designed to make recip-specific measurements. We are also introducing recip-specific plot types, such as dynamic Pressure-Volume curves, in our System 1TM software. This allows us to now address your condition monitoring needs for reciprocating compressors as comprehensively as the rotating machinery monitoring solutions for which we're globally recognized."
