Southco introduces its new Folding T-handle Style
Compression Latch that was designed to meet both the performance and aesthetic needs of equipment used in the heavy-duty machinery and transportation industries. This new latch provides effective sealing against environmental contaminants, while its robust construction provides extreme durability. The modern industrial design of the flush mounting cup and T-handle compliments the styling of today's equipment. The latch is based on a proven Southco mechanism, and has been extensively tested to ensure its suitability for heavy-duty applications. Its corrosion-resistant finish has passed 500 hours of salt fog testing.
The latch provides 6.4 mm of consistent, pull-up compression, eliminating shock and vibration and providing a tight seal against outside contaminants. The large amount of pull up compression efficiently compresses the gaskets typically used to eliminate vibration and reduce noise levels, helping equipment manufacturers comply with various international standards relating to noise emissions.
It is available in two styles: with a mounting cup for a flush surface on the outer panel, and a handle-only version for custom-designed panels. With the flush cup version, the T-handle folds down into the cup so that nothing protrudes from the surface, providing a measure of safety for operators working near the equipment. The ergonomically designed T-handle also provides a secure grip for gloved hands. A shuttered keylock is concealed under the folded T-handle to restrict access. Custom key-codes are available to meet specific access-restriction requirements. The latch is also available in a non-locking version for quick, un-restricted access.
The stylish handle offers smooth, intuitive operation, and is held securely in the raised (900) and lowered positions by an internal detent mechanism. The latch can also be adjusted to fit a wide grip range. Installation is fast and easy with the concealed captive mounting studs, while the symmetrical panel preparation allows for either horizontal or vertical installation. Custom color matching is also available upon request.
The robust construction and durability of this latch make it an ideal solution for external applications such as engine covers and access panels on off-highway, construction, mining and agricultural equipment; compressors and generators; and waste treatment equipment.
