Composite Frac Plug fosters increased milling efficacy.

Press Release Summary:

With 97% premium composite blend, TruFrac® increases efficiency of plug-and-perf completion operations by reducing time on location. Accelerated run in-times and reduced mill-out are due to limited metal content and reduced cutting size, while sealing capability enables use in environments with temperatures to 300°F and pressures to 10,000 psi. Plug can be used in single- and multiple-zone stimulation operations in vertical, deviated, horizontal, or multilateral wells.

Weatherford Announces TruFrac® Composite Frac Plug at ICoTA 2015

Zonal Isolation Plug Enables Higher Run-In Speeds and More Efficient Milling

HOUSTON – Weatherford International plc announced today the commercial release of its TruFrac® composite frac plug at the 2015 Intervention and Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) Conference and Exhibition in Booth 411. With a high level of reliability, the TruFrac® composite frac plug maximizes the efficiency of plug-and-perf completion operations by reducing time on location.

Weatherford is the only integrated oilfield services company that manufactures its own 97 percent premium composite blend for TruFrac®, which allows for the ability to control quality and consistency throughout the entire process of creating the plug.

"The TruFrac® composite plug has been optimized to provide one of the shortest, smoothest plugs. This results in faster run in-times and reduced mill-out times due to the plugs' limited metal content and reduced cutting size which allows a cleaner well," said Mark Hopmann, Vice President of Completions at Weatherford. "In addition, the technology offers improved anchoring and sealing compared to traditional plugs, increasing reliability and mitigating risk in plug-and-perf operations."

Because of its reliable sealing capability, the plug is rated for use in environments with temperatures up to 300 degrees F (149 degrees C) and pressures up to 10,000 psi (689 bar). They can be used in single- and multiple-zone stimulation operations in vertical, deviated, horizontal, or multilateral wells. When deployed in horizontal wells, the plug can run in hole at a speed of up to 500 ft/min (152 m/min).

The TruFrac® plug recently helped an operator in the Eagle Ford reduce mill-out time to an average of 10.5 minutes per plug from the industry average of 25 minutes per plug, which enabled the operator to accelerate the plug-and-perf operation to begin producing the well faster. To date, the Company has successfully deployed more than 12,000 plugs with 99.98 percent reliability.
