Belden® Banana Peel® Projector Cables 5788AV and 6788AV Deliver High A/V Performance and Fast, Easy Room-to-Room Installation

October 8, 2007

RICHMOND, IN - Belden, a world leader in the development of signal transmission solutions for wired and wireless enterprise networks, as well as broadcast, industrial, residential and security markets, has introduced its new Belden Banana Peel Projector Cables 5788AV and 6788AV, innovative composite cables designed to support high performance in inter-room audio/video (A/V) installations. The premium quality cables are extremely flexible and feature Belden's patented Banana Peel construction, which delivers installation benefits for installers implementing sophisticated room-to-room multimedia systems in today's high-tech buildings.

Belden developed the dual-function Projector Cables to fulfill a marketplace need for a faster, more efficient way to bring high quality A/V into multi-room venues such as schools, universities, municipal buildings, houses of worship and commercial office spaces.

Within the new composite cables, the video components are six Belden Mini Hi-res 75 Ohm Video Coax cables (Product No. 1281R-Riser and 1282P-Plenum). The audio components are two Belden 22 AWG Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) Audio cables featuring aluminum foil-bonded jackets for easy access to the positive, negative and shield drain wire.

Banana Peel Design Means Faster, Easier Installation

Unlike conventional plenum jackets, which can be difficult to handle and add to the cables' fuel load, the new Projector Cables feature Belden's exclusive Banana Peel construction which eliminates the composite's overall jacket. In this design, the individual cables are affixed to a central spline and are simply peeled off as needed for termination, making installation much faster, easier, and more versatile.

The Banana Peel construction also enables easier break-out of cables when the full bundle of eight components needs to be divided to run smaller bundles to separate wall plates within the room. Belden's coax cables offer true 75 Ohm impedance, are sweep-tested, and come with Return Loss assurance. In addition, the elimination of the outer jacket in this composite reduces the cables' fuel load, making the Belden Banana Peel Projector Cables more suitable for in-wall and plenum use.
