Compensation Unit suits pick-and-place applications.

Press Release Summary:

With compensation ranges of ±12 mm in X- and Y-direction and ±14 mm in Z-direction, Model AGE-S guarantees compensation beyond positioning accuracy of robot for medium and heavy load applications. It resists bending moments and complies to workpiece positions, minimizing assembly and unloading forces, and protecting robot and assembly line. With payloads from 12-220 lb, unit may be fixed rigidly via integrated pneumatic locking device during handling operation.

New Compensation Unit for Medium and Heavy Loads AGE-S

SCHUNK Inc. introduces a new compliance unit AGE-S to overcome challenges in difficult pick-and-place applications. This new unit guarantees compensation beyond the positioning accuracy of the robot for medium and heavy load application.

The major strength of the AGE-S unit is the "pick and place" application of workpieces on levels with various heights in combination with the compensation of horizontal tolerances. This combination of three compensation directions (X, Y and Z) in one unit minimizes the size and the weight of the unit compared to conventional solutions. It resists bending moments and complies to workpiece positions minimizing assembly- and unloading forces thus protecting the robot and the assembly line. Easy and fast set-up of tooling and programmed pick points are possible since positioning errors are compensated.

Compensation ranges of plus/minus 12 mm (X- and Y-direction) and plus/minus 14 mm (Z-direction) are standard. In addition, the unit may be fixed rigidly via an integrated pneumatic locking device during a handling operation in XY- as well as in Z-direction. Sturdy guides with excellent stability characteristics allow payloads from 5,5 kg (12 lbs.) up to 100 kg (220 lbs.). The flanges of the compensation unit are standardized in accordance with DIN 9409-1 thus allowing a direct mount a robotarm.
