Compactors process ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Press Release Summary:

Chipmunk Model 6000 is a 20 hp system with output of 500 lb/hr aluminum and 1,400 lb/hr steel and ductile iron. Ten hp, Model 2000 outputs 260 lb/hr aluminum and up to 600 lb/hr steel and ductile iron. Utilizing mechanical kinetic energy driven design, both deliver 8:1 compaction ratio, transforming metalworking chips into dense and dry briquettes. Machines include discharge chute and straight line, single auger feeding for non-clogging operation.

Kurt Introduces New Line of Metal Compactors that Add a New Profit Center to Machining Operations

Minneapolis, Minnesota: Kurt announces introduction of its new metal compactors, which have an output of up to 500 lbs/hr aluminum pucks and add a major new profit center to machining operations.

These newly designed systems compact both ferrous and non-ferrous chips and reclaim expensive cutting fluids. They provide a new and better alternative for getting higher value for recycled chips.

Called the "Chipmunk" compactors, these systems are available in two models - the Model 6000 is a 20 hp system with output of up to 500 lbs/hr aluminum and up to 1400 lbs/hr steel and ductile iron, and the Model 2000 is a 10 hp system with output of up to 260 lbs/hr aluminum and up to 600 lbs/hr steel and ductile iron.

Both systems have a unique mechanical kinetic energy driven design that is extremely energy efficient. They utilize only a fraction of the power required by 50 hp hydraulically driven compactor systems. They transform metalworking chips into dense and dry briquettes. Both machines deliver an 8 to 1 compaction ratio and eliminate cutting fluid and coolant spill risks during storage and transport. They dramatically increase the amount of fluids reclaimed and eliminate the need for large areas required for scrap storage while increasing the value of scrap.

Design features include: straight line, single auger feeding for non-clogging operation; simple compression plate, punch and die design - compacts chips more consistently and efficiently than hydraulic compactors; automatic discharge chute of compacted briquettes - no moving parts to jam up; programmable logic controller assures compactor efficiency - can be operated manually or automatically; simple changeover from one material to another.

Additional system features include: compact footprint requiring less than 100 square feet of floor space, overload protection device, automatic grease lubrication of compaction drive, rotary position encoder, programmable controls and production timer, shear pin and hydraulic overload protection of ram. Weights for the 20 and 60 ton models respectively are 6,200 and 14,700 lbs.

The Chipmunk line of metal compactors is manufactured by Kurt Manufacturing Company, Chip Solutions Division, 5280 Main Street Northeast, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55421.
