Astec Introduces 1U, High-Density, Single-Output Compact Switcher

Power-Factor-Corrected, 125-Watt LPS128 Features Standby and Auxiliary Outputs

CARLSBAD, Calif. - August 11, 2003 - Astec Power, a leading merchant supplier of power conversion solutions, has announced the addition of its LPS128 switcher to its recently introduced LPS120 high-density 3 x 5 power supply family. Ideally suited for 1U (1.75-inch) rack installations and other low-profile applications, the new unit weighs in at 6.7 Watts per cubic inch delivering up to 130 Watts total power at 48 volts. Featuring active power factor correction to minimize input harmonic distortion, the LPS128 accepts universal input of 85-264 VAC at 47-440Hz and can deliver its full-rated 130-Watt output with 30 CFM forced air or 80W with convection cooling. This compact low power switcher is well matched for a wide variety of applications including telecommunications, networking, test and measurement, single-board computers and gigabit Ethernet devices.

Combining a low profile with a space-saving footprint, the LPS128 measures only 1.29 inches high by 3 inches wide by 5 inches long and can be set up for lengthwise or crosswise airflow to offer designers layout flexibility. The device also features a 12V 1/2A auxiliary output and 5V at 1/2A standby output, as well as overload, over-voltage and thermal protection.

It includes a built-in Class B EMI filter, remote sense, remote inhibit and single-wire parallel on the primary output that enables current-sharing to balance loads. The new LPS128 model has an operating temperature range of zero to 50°C without derating and can function up to 70°C by derating the output 2.5 percent per degree C.

A demonstrated mean time between failures (MTBF) of over 550,000 hours at full load in 25°C ambient conditions assures maximum reliability. The device also complies with worldwide safety and performance standards from UL, CSA, VDE, NEMKO, CB and CE. In addition, it includes IEC EN61000-3-2 harmonic and IEC EN61000-4-X susceptibility compliance.

Available now, pricing begins at $95.00 in OEM quantities. For more information, please contact an Astec power representative in your area. To locate a representative, go to the Astec Power Web site at astecpower.com, and click on the SALES OFFICE button on the home page.
