Kontron Announces Rugged, Compact Server for Diverse OEM Applications

Versatile, Full-Feature, Fanless CVX-Server features Intel® 1.7GHz Mobile Pentium® M 735 Processor MIL-rated for mobile in-vehicle computing, telemetry and other harsh environment applications

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.-October 19, 2004-The Mobile Computing Division of Kontron America (formerly Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc.) today announced the CVX-Server - a rugged, compact server designed to support a variety of OEM systems and applications, from embedded data acquisition and control to mobile in-vehicle testing, data communications and remote, embedded video capture.

Meeting Mil-Std 810F ratings for shock, vibration, and humidity, the CVX-Server features a solid, rugged, unitized aluminum construction to protect internal subsystems. Operating temperature from -15°C up to 60°C is made possible by the CVX-Server's fanless cooling system. A heated hard drive upgrade is also available for expanded operating temperature specifications to -25°C on cold start and 40°C operating. The CVX-Server also offers impressive expansion capabilities with interfaces including IEEE 1394, USB 2.0, and a compact flash slot. An open mini PCI slot for integrated 802.11g and a 5.8" length PCI slot give an OEM the ability to convert an MDT (Mobile Data Terminal) or in-vehicle embedded system into a mobile Digital Video Recorder (DVR) surveillance system for homeland security programs.

"We designed the rugged CVX-Server for OEMs requiring expanded I/O for peripheral connectivity, architecture expansion for custom integrated technology, and Pentium M performance for today and tomorrow's processor intensive applications," said Dale Szymborski, president. "We're proud to build on our long legacy of rugged computing expertise to deliver this product specifically for OEM customers who need low power Pentium M performance, Mil-Std ruggedness and PCI expansion for data acquisition."

Key CVX-Server specifications include:

o Expansion capabilities for future applications with two open Card Bus Slots, CF Slot, MiniPCI Slot, 2nd IDE channel for integrated optical drive or Disk-On-Chip and 5.8" length PCI slot.

o Third party certified to Mil-Std 810F for shock, humidity and vibration.

o Impressive I/O features with three RS-232 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394 port, one speaker port, 10/100 Ethernet port, one LVDS port, one RGB port, 6.5VDC to 30VDC power input port and a smart battery UPS port.

o 1.7GHz Intel Mobile Pentium M 735 Processor is the fastest to be used to date in a Kontron Mobile Computing data server.
