Compact, Efficient 53-liter Incubator Optimizes Cell Growth



The CB 53 Incubator from Binder Inc. offers a 1.9 cubic-foot capacity in a highly compact footprint to reduce operating costs and conserve valuable laboratory space. Hot-air chamber sterilization at 180° C makes this new addition to the BINDER CB family particularly well suited for applications in cell and tissue culture, as well as for use in in-vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratories.

Binder's Permadry® condensation-free double-pan humidification system maintains dry interior walls while the incubator operates at relative humidity of more than 95%. Water level can be visually inspected, and changing the water or refilling the water pan is easy.

CO2/air mixture is injected into the inner chamber through a cross-flow mixing valve. The mixture is distributed homogenously because the inner chamber is under slight vacuum, which generates a Venturi effect. The need for an internal fan, which creates turbulence and complicates cleaning, is eliminated. An infrared sensor selectively measures CO2 concentration in real-time and a microprocessor controls temperature and CO2 concentration. The standard model includes an automatic self-diagnostic system with visual and audible alarm functions, and dry contacts for continuous central monitoring of CO2 concentration. There is an option available for O2 control, which allows tri-gas control for sustaining hypoxic conditions.

The inner chamber has integrated, smooth-edged shelf supports, which are formed as part of the chamber wall in a deep-draw process, and thus have no sharp corners or edges. This facilitates cleaning and prevents the formation of contaminating deposits in inaccessible corners.

The CB 53 is used in cell biology, biological-tissue engineering, microbiology, pharmaceutical research, IVF, human and veterinary medicine, and dental technology -- applications that demand long-term stability, reliability, homogeneity and reproducibility of results.
