CommScope Offers the First Coaxial Cable and Connector System Approved for WiMAX Frequency Band by a Major U.S. Carrier

HICKORY, N.C., March 28 // -- CommScope, Inc., (NYSE:CTV), a world leader in infrastructure solutions for communication networks, today announced that its cable and connector system has been approved for WiMAX applications by a major U.S. wireless carrier.

WiMAX, or 4G as it is sometimes called, is being considered for future wireless transmission network expansions as new bandwidth-intensive wireless services continue to be introduced. Over the last decade, the wireless industry has increased its consumption of the bandwidth spectrum due to increasing demand for video, voice and data. Frequency ranges that originally started in at 960 MHz are now pushing 2.7 GHz, creating unprecedented technology challenges for large diameter cable products.

"We believe that we are the first supplier to have our cable and connector system approved for WiMAX applications by a major U.S. carrier. We are confident we can meet and exceed the emerging WiMAX frequency requirements using our proven broadband cable technology," said Senior Vice President Larry Nelson, CommScope's Chief Technical Officer for Wireless Engineering. "When originally introduced, our wireless cable designs were already adapted for use in a broad range of frequency spectrums. This minimized the need for cable replacements as frequency demands expanded."

With CommScope becoming qualified by a major U.S. wireless carrier for use in WiMAX frequencies, the company expects to expand its WiMAX presence within the U.S. as well as Korea and Europe where it is already in use. As higher frequency demands continue to stretch the limits on traditional cable designs, CommScope continues to research and develop new ideas to support future WiMAX compatibility for its wireless products.
