MGE's New Graphical Command Center(TM) Improves UPS Reliability and Provides Critical Information At-A-Glance

Touch Screen Interface Adds Local and Internet Communication to MGE UPSs

COSTA MESA, Calif. - November 12, 2002 - MGE UPS SYSTEMS, a global leader in high-availability power solutions, now features a robust Graphical Command Center(TM) (GCC) color touch-screen display on its multi-module EPS 6000 and EPS 8000 UPS systems with power ratings up to 800 kVA. Also available as an option for single-module systems, the high-resolution display offers a host of features including event logs, animated mimic diagrams, performance graphs, and user instructions - all at the touch of a finger. The large graphics simplify UPS operation allowing users to easily understand the status of their critical power system. The GCC's Web-ready Ethernet port makes data directly accessible via the Internet or internal network using a standard browser.

Featuring a high-contrast industrial grade, thin film transistor (TFT) 10.2-inch LCD monitor, the GCC incorporates a powerful single-board computer to provide a rich suite of system and component level information including:

o Animated Mimic Diagrams: Detailed single-line diagrams (both system level and module level on multi-module systems) indicate current flow, breaker position, component status, and overall system status in an easy-to-read color-coded format.

o Alarm Event Log: All system alarms and events (non-critical actions) are available on a color-coded (depending on alarm or event type) and time/date stamped scrolling log.

o Detailed Component Status: Touching any major component (i.e. input, inverter, rectifier, battery, output) on the single-line diagram will prompt a detailed listing of all the status points and electrical measurements for that component.

o Trending: The trending screen displays key UPS performance information such as output power on a time scaled graph.

o Operator Instructions: English language instructions quickly guide the user through essential UPS operation procedures avoiding potential operator error.

In addition, the system serves as a standalone Web server with its own IP address and Ethernet connection. By using the built-in network interface card (NIC) to connect to an existing network, users will be able to view and operate the device using a conventional Internet browser. The unit provides conventional HTML tags detailing UPS data, enabling simple integration of UPS information with other management systems.

The new Graphical Command Center is available as standard equipment on multi-module EPS 6000/EPS 8000 systems starting the fourth quarter of 2002 and as an option on single-module systems. Fully supported by MGE's extensive field service organization that includes over 120 field service engineers located throughout the U.S., the GCCs can also be retrofitted to existing EPS 6000/EPS 8000 systems. Pricing for the factory-installed GCC option with standard software interface starts at $6,400 and includes a one-year warranty.
