Nevamar's MelCor II Laminate for Edge Applications Enhances Designers' Flexibility

SHELTON, Conn. -- Nevamar Decorative Surfaces is giving designers a competitive edge - literally.

The company's new MelCor II - developed specifically for edge applications - is a unique color-through laminate that provides continuous color to the edges of the finished product. There's no reason for disruptive off-color lines to interrupt a continuous smooth design.

"Nevamar MelCor II gives designers greater ability than ever before to use the edge to enhance the overall effect," said Robert Muller, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Panolam Industries. "It gives them another dimension to expand their creative designs." Nevamar is a division of Panolam Industries.

MelCor II enables designers to incorporate a beveled, wood, smoothed or pinstriped edge. Routers, engravers or sandblasting equipment can etch grooves, bands or other patterns - even lettering - into the laminate without compromising the material's color. MelCor II laminates are also available in multi-toned and sandwich colors - useful for engraving, banding and grooved design effects.

The manufacturing process ensures that the product's edge never detracts from the overall appearance. Multiple layers of pigmented core paper are impregnated into a flexible thermoset resin at pressures exceeding 1,000 pounds per square inch and at temperatures approaching 300 degrees Fahrenheit. The panels are trimmed to size, and the backs are sanded to facilitate bonding during installation. The result is a more flexible color-through surfacing material.

Like all Nevamar products, MelCor II laminates are environmentally friendly. They're GREENGUARD-certified, and Nevamar's proprietary resins are part of an eco-friendly manufacturing process.
