PCS-II Fast Perceptive Color Sensor for Demanding Industrial Applications

Pittsford, NY. PCS-II is a unique, new, very fast USB-connected Perceptive Color Sensor with a spectral sensitivity which models that of the human eye, designed for high-speed industrial control and measurement applications (data rates up to kHz range).

PCS-II offers fast, true-to-perception industrial color recognition for up to 255 user-defined colors, previously unavailable. PCS-II's operational modes include color control, color recognition, color classification and color measurement. Illumination is provided by a white LED with adjustable brightness. Relative accuracy (according to a sampled reference color) is better than DE=0.5.

PCS-II implements the CIE1931 standard distribution function (human eye response curve) and "sees' colors and color variations just like humans. PCS-II's integrated photodetector uses filter curves that correspond to visual responses. Internal RGB signals are processed in the sensor's controller, mimicking human color perception. Inaccurate color results from conventional RGB- sensors are thus eliminated (normal RGB- sensors "see" colors differently from humans due to their simplistic color signal processing). Results from simple color sensors (e.g. good/bad) are significantly different from human responses. This could mean errors and higher costs in automation applications for color recognition - e.g. quality control. Product manufacturers will be pleased that, at last, PCS- II provides a way to accurately simulate the "visual impression" of the human eye in high- speed (kHz) industrial color control. Additionally, PCS-II's special functions like color grouping, ambient light suppression for luminous objects or master-slave operation allow applications that have been problematic until now - there is no other sensor that reaches the performance of PCS-II.

Applications for PCS-II include color sensing emitted light from LEDs, LCD displays and other displays and monitors, as well as sensing reflected light from paint, print, textiles and plastics. Other applications include color sorting or control in chemical, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, packaging and food manufacturing.

Made in Germany by Silicann Technologies GmbH, PCS-II is available now from stock at $1299.00 each (includes cables and fiber-optic) from their U.S. distributor Saelig Co. Inc. Pittsford NY. info@saelig.com.
