Color Masterbatches have non-drying formula.

Press Release Summary:

Formula X(TM) polyethylene terephthalate (PET) masterbatches are designed for colors and additives that can be used in stretch blow molding, injection molding, and thermoforming without pre-drying. Able to eliminate process issues such as feed throat clogging and screw slippage, products can be fed at throat of machine and promote dispersion of colors, additives, and special effect pigments. Polyester-based masterbatches are compatible with bottle-grade PET.

Ampacet Introduces Formula X(TM) Non-Drying Color Masterbatches for PET

Tarrytown, NY, November 14, 2006 - Ampacet, the leading masterbatch supplier, has introduced Formula X(TM) polyethylene terephthalate (PET) masterbatches for colors and additives that can be used in stretch blow molding, injection molding and thermoforming without the effort and expense of pre-drying. It also offers the potential to reduce existing process issues, such as feed throat clogging and screw slippage.

Processors typically dry PET to less than 50 ppm moisture content, usually over the course of several hours, to avoid quality and performance problems. In producing stretch blow molded bottles, for instance, excess moisture lowers inherent viscosity, which can cause issues such as inconsistent molding, haze and water bubble formation and poor bottle physical properties.

Ampacet's new Formula X PET masterbatch line can be fed at the throat of a machine, since it doesn't require drying, which can free dryer capacity. In addition to simplifying PET processing, these masterbatches will not clog the feed throat due to premature melting and will not cause screw slippage since they are unlike the liquid and wax-based color systems often used with PET.

Formula X masterbatches allow for excellent dispersion of colors, additives and special effect pigments. As such, they have successfully allowed for pearlescent and frost effects, which are usually hard to achieve with PET.

As polyester-based masterbatches, they are compatible with bottle-grade PET, unlike the liquid colors or wax-based colors. In addition, their viscosity is close to that of PET, so they do not affect bottle properties.
