Color Laser Scanner provides computerized measurement.

Press Release Summary:

With portable Laser Scanner LS, users can scan, digitally recreate, and record all of object or area's dimensions, creating what looks like photograph on computer screen, but in 3D. Captured data can be used to create digital model for inspection, reverse-engineering, CAD-to-part comparison, factory planning, or investigations. When combined with Nikon D200 and FARO Scene v4.1 software, scanner captures 50 million color pixels in 2.5 min.

FARO Presents New Color Laser Scanner LS

LAKE MARY, Fla. - March 22, 2007 - FARO Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: FARO), the world market leader in portable computer-aided measurement arm and laser tracker sales, today announced that it has developed a new solution for 3-D laser scanning in color.

"FARO now offers a uniquely professional and economical solution for color laser scanning," FARO President and CEO Jay Freeland said. "Color scanning is much more informative, realistic and has a greater emotional impact compared to typical black-and-white scans. Now that we can provide it at such a small relative cost, any serious user will now be able to reap the benefits."

The FARO Laser Scanner LS is a portable, computerized measurement device that scans, digitally recreates and records all of an object or area's dimensions, creating what looks like a "photograph" on the computer screen - but in 3-D. The captured data can be used to create a digital model for inspection, reverse-engineering, CAD-to-part comparison, factory planning, or investigations for industries ranging from power, process and piping to forensics, surveying and historical preservation.

"Scans are usually in black and white because adding high-quality, color information to millions of 3-D pixels was difficult and time consuming," Dr. Bernd-Dietmar Becker, FARO's Director for Marketing & Product Management for Laser Scanning, said. "The new LS color series delivers high-quality, high-speed color scanning with minimal effort and cost, which gives it huge market potential."

When combined with the specially calibrated Color Bracket, new Nikon D200 and FARO Scene v4.1 software, the FARO Laser Scanner LS provides:

High-speed capture of 50 million color pixels in only 2.5 minutes
Minimized parallax errors common with competing systems
Automatic white balance
Automatic color capture
Automatic color overlay of 3-D pixels
Easy color handling
10 mega-pixel color vs. 6 of the previous version

"This gives the LS an impressive advantage over conventional solutions, which are slower, more costly and deliver lower quality," Dr. Becker said.
