June 2003

Description
VESA DDC
The ThinkVision C190 CRT color monitor supports the DDC protocol to level 2B. Basic configuration information can be passed to a system unit from its attached monitor. Plug and Play protocol allows a DDC-enabled system to automatically configure the video adapter to drive the attached monitor at its optimum display mode without end-user intervention. For effective optimization, the attaching system unit must also be hardware- and software-enabled for DDC operation.

The capabilities of the monitor are held in nonvolatile monitor memory in an encoded format. The data is received from the monitor by the system unit during boot up and system configuration.

The DDC data sent by the monitor to the attached system unit includes the monitor's serial number and other identification information. This can be held in the system unit until requested, for example, by a department LAN administrator needing to assess the location of all equipment connected to the LAN.

Date information transmitted in the monitor DDC data conforms to VESA DDC Standard V2.

Multiattachment Flexibility
With the microprocessor-controlled, multifrequency operation of the monitor, you can migrate from VGA through SVGA, XGA, and SXGA to UXGA (1600 x 1200 addressability) or use increasingly sophisticated applications without any immediate need to replace the monitors. The C190 can deliver flicker-free 1280 x 1024 pels at up to 85 Hz (non-interlaced).

Power-Management Capability
These monitors have a power-management capability that meets the power consumption requirements of the EPA ENERGY STAR program. The power-management functions are invoked when initiating signals are received from an attached system unit or installed graphic adapter card that also uses the VESA Display Power Management Signalling (DPMS) standard.

The availability of power management minimizes the energy requirements of the monitor. This can have an immediate, advantageous effect for those who need to reduce energy consumption.

Comprehensive On-Screen User Controls
The microprocessor-based OSD combined with the digital controls lets you fully control:
o Picture position, size, shape, and alignment
o Digital brightness and contrast
o Selectable color points (9300 K, 6500 K, 5500 K)
o Color tint control
o Picture tilt and moire effects
o Degauss

The controls, set on the front bezel, are easy to operate, and incorporate icons that identify the controls and their operation. In conjunction with the built-in display mode presets, a reset control lets you revert to the factory default setting for the current mode. When you customize the current mode settings of the monitor, changes are saved automatically.

Ergonomic Features
This monitor has the following ergonomic features:
o Optimal flicker-free viewing of 1280 x 1024 pels at up to 85 Hz
o Flat screen for minimal glare and distortion
o VESA DDC capability to automatically select the optimum display modes when attached to a DDC-enabled system
o Anti-reflective screen treatments to minimize glare without sacrificing picture sharpness
o Compliance with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9241 Part 3 for front-of-screen ergonomics when forming part of an ISO-compliant system
o Compliance with SWEDAC MPR-II Guidelines for low-electric, magnetic, and electrostatic emissions TCO '99
