New Concentrates Provide Impact Strength along with Color

In Tests by Teknor Apex, New TekTuff™ Colorants Boost Dart-Impact Resistance by Two-Thirds in Polyolefins

PAWTUCKET, RI, U.S.A., -- New impact-modified concentrates enhance the toughness of polyolefins while imparting the same bright colors available with corresponding unmodified concentrates, it was announced today by Teknor Apex.

TekTuff™ concentrates withstood two-thirds greater impact force than standard concentrates in ASTM D5628-10 falling dart tests conducted by Teknor Apex, typically enduring up to 161 ft-lb/in, compared with 96 for unmodified colorants. Depending on the impact improvement needed, higher use rates of the concentrate may be required

The new concentrates are recommended for molded products such as pails, trash cans, and chairs, according to Joe Allbritton, technical service associate for the Teknor Color division. “TekTuff concentrates are available on a custom basis, including new color matches as well as any existing color,” said Allbritton. “We intend to develop similar TekTuff technology for use with styrenic resins.”
