New InfoVue FSC LCD Technology from Lumex Provides a Cost-Effective Option for Monochromatic Devices Looking to Transition to Color

Innovative LCD provides high color saturation, fast response time and low power consumption

PALATINE, IL - Lumex announces the global launch of their InfoVue FSC (Field Sequential Color) family of color alphanumeric LCD displays, a cost-effective alternative for monochromatic devices looking to transition to color. InfoVue FSC LCDs help drive brand differentiation as color display technology can now be affordably integrated into a wide range of applications - with up to 80% cost savings compared to full-color, graphic TFT LCDs. The new LCD technology also provides fast response time and low power consumption.

Compatible with standard LCD drivers, InfoVue FSC technology is ideal for a wide range of display applications that require cost-effective color alphanumeric displays. Applications include:
  • Personal electronics (including clocks and phones as well as stereo, entertainment and video game systems);
  • Appliances (including displays on microwaves, refrigerators and vacuums);
  • Medical device technology (including display features on medical radiology equipment, monitors, defibrillators, infusion pumps, blood gases analyzers and ventilators);
  • Industrial Control technology (including residential and commercial smart meter energy controls, residential and commercial environmental controls and motor drive controls).

    InfoVue FSC LCDs feature integrated RGB LED backlights that allow for a wide range of color display options. The innovative chips-on-glass technology provides simple color programming with high color saturation performance. The simplified manufacturing process eliminates the need for color filters, transistors and brightness enhancement film.

    "InfoVue FSC LCDs are ideally suited for applications that need to migrate from monochromatic to color display or for those who already have color displays but are looking for a low cost alternative to full-color, graphic TFT and CSTN technology," explained Yasoob Ahmed, Display Technology Manager at Lumex. "The simplified manufacturing process reduces cost and speeds time to market while still providing a high-quality color display."

    InfoVue FSC LCDs are TN positive, transmissive and statically-driven. They provide consistent performance in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C.

    InfoVue FSC LCD technology comes with complimentary integration support. Lumex Technical Design Specialists can integrate the FSC technology with LEDs, light pipes, switches, connectors and other key components to create solutions that maximize performance and efficiency in each individual application

    The RoHs compliant InfoVue FSC LCDs are available in custom sizes ranging from one inch squared to five inch squared. The alphanumeric segments are available in seven standard colors with a white background or in black with the seven standard colors as background options.

    Pricing is approximately $5 to $30 per unit in production quantities dependent on size and quantity ordered. Complete custom order lead times range from six to eight weeks.
