Collision Sensor suits wide variety of industrial robots.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for applications using 3-5 kg capacity robots, Model SR-61 helps prevent damage to robotic end-effectors resulting from robot crashes. In operation, sensor is adjusted to support typical loads experienced by robot arm in all directions including angular, compression, and torsional. Sensor absorbs crash and resets itself within 0.001 in. of original position. Three-wire PNP proximity switch set to actuate within 0.020 in. of axial motion ensures reliable operation.

ATI Expands Collision Sensor Product Line Provides Cost Savings for Wide Variety of Industrial Robots

The SR-61 Collision Sensor, the latest addition to the product line of collision protection devices manufactured by ATI Industrial Automation, Apex, N.C., has a lower operating range for increased sensitivity in applications using 3 to 5 kilogram capacity robots and is designed to prevent costly damage to robotic end-effectors resulting from robot crashes. The patented, resettable Collision Sensor is designed to absorb the "crash" and reset itself, virtually eliminating tool damage and lost training or production time. Several benefits and features of the Collision Sensor make it an ideal solution to minimize downtime and eliminate damage, such as: Rotational and Axial Motion, High Repeatability, Energy Absorption, Rugged Design, Consistent Breakaway Points, Automatic Reset, Dynamically Variable Trip Points and Quick-Response Crash Detection, among others.

In operation, the Collision Sensor is adjusted to support typical loads experienced by the robot arm in all directions: angular, compression and torsional. During the collision the SR-61 Collision Sensor can comply large distances in response to any type of displacement force giving the robot controller ample time to take corrective action. Following the crash, the Collision Sensor uses precise locating components to reset within 0.001-inch of its original position.

Also, breakaway points are set at a given pressure independent of angular, compressive axial or torsional load. The Collision Sensor has flexible mounting surfaces, either easy-to-use threaded or through-hole patterns that reduce stack height of the tooling and Collisions Sensor assembly. A 3-wire PNP proximity switch set to actuate within 0.020-inch of axial motion ensures reliable switch performance even in highly humid environments.
