Collision-Sensing Bumper Provides Two-Stage Protection

A unique collision-sensing, cushioning bumper from Tapeswitch Corporation enhances protection for automatic guided vehicle and moving platform applications. This bumper provides one or two output signals, depending on the severity of contact.

On initial contact with an obstruction, a leading-edge sensor generates an output which can be used for a stop signal or contact alarm. If the bumper continues to collapse, a second sensor generates an output which can initiate an emergency stop or reverse. Typical sensitivities are 2 lbs to activate the first sensor and 20 lbs for the second. Other sensitivities are available.

These two stage bumpers are available up to 14 inches deep, 7 inches wide and 16 feet long. Additional applications include large moving doors, conveyors and telescoping devices.
