MUNICH, Germany (November 14, 2006) - Providing design engineers with an infrared emitter that produces a highly uniform narrow beam of parallel lightwaves, TT electronics OPTEK Technology has developed a collimated beam LED. Designated the OP205CL Series, the device features a high efficiency GaAlAs LED mounted in a TO-46 metal can package with long leads.

According to Dave Birtalan, vice president of OPTEK Technology's Components Business Unit, the package design of the OP205CL Series LED allows it to be used in a variety of demanding applications. "The device has a precision optical lens that produces a highly uniform collimated beam pattern, and the wide temperature range makes it suitable for harsh environments," said Birtalan. "These unique characteristics make the collimated beam LED ideal for long distance sensing and optical encoder applications."

The OP205CL Series collimated beam LED features a narrow 10° beam angle and 1.34 inch (34mm) leads that eliminate the need for additional wires in most applications. The GaAIAs LED has a wavelength of 875nm, and operating temperature range for the device is
-40°C to +100°C.
