Mobilygen Announces the Industry's Broadest Range of H.264 HD Codec ICs

Mobilygen's en-ViE(TM) platform is the first to deliver high-profile 1080i encoding with secure internet connectivity

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 25 /-- Mobilygen, a leader in low power H.264 codec ICs, today announced the en-ViE platform enabling the creation, playback and distribution of HD H.264 video for connected home, mobile, and surveillance applications. The en-ViE platform includes three new codec SOCs (System On Chip), the MG2500, MG3500, and MG4500, offering customers the choice of dual-stream SD, multi-stream SD or full 1080i HD encoding. A single en-ViE SOC can provide up to 8 channels of H.264 D1 encoding with less than one watt of total power consumption. All en-ViE SOCs share a common hardware and software architecture enabling manufacturers to develop a wide range of video products based on a single software investment.

Video content is rapidly transitioning from standard definition to high definition, and is increasingly being distributed over IP networks. To enable higher quality video with faster delivery and reduced storage requirements, the H.264 video standard has been developed to provide over twice the compression ratio of MPEG-2. H.264 has been adopted for use in satellite and TV broadcasts, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc players, AVCHD camcorders, and personal media players including iPods(R) and Sony(R) PSPs. Mobilygen's en-ViE platform delivers the benefits of H.264 to these and other video products including IP-cameras, DVRs, IP-based set top boxes, PC peripherals, and video phones.

"Video products are rapidly transitioning to the H.264 video standard and adding connectivity to IP networks," said Michelle Abraham, Principal Analyst, In-Stat. "Mobilygen's en-ViE platform satisfies these requirements with high-quality video encoding and secure IP networking."

"Our customers need to develop the highest quality video products as the market transitions from SD to HD," said Dr. Joseph Perl, Mobilygen President and CEO. "The en-ViE platform extends our proven H.264 product offering to provide a range of SOCs with high-profile HD encoding and extremely low power consumption."

en-ViE "Enabling Video Everywhere" -- Technology
The en-ViE platform offers High Profile 1080i H.264 encoding at full 1920x1080 resolution with both CABAC and MBAFF (Macro-Block Adaptive Field/Frame) to provide the highest quality video at any given bit rate. Full-duplex 720P encoding and decoding enables the implementation of single-chip DVRs or video conferencing systems. The real-time transcoding of legacy HD MPEG-2 streams into H.264 helps minimize video storage requirements and enables reliable video streaming over wireless networks. The platform also supports the creation of high-resolution JPEG images for IP and hybrid camera applications.

The SOCs integrate an ARM9 CPU dedicated to customers' applications. A programmable Multi-Media Engine supports all leading audio formats including AAC, MP3, G.7xx and Dolby Digital. Network connectivity is provided via integrated Gigabit Ethernet and high-speed USB 2.0 OTG. AES encryption and digital signature hardware provide secure networking and storage. Most popular video storage devices are supported, including USB, SD, MMC, Compact-Flash, CE-ATA and IDE.

The en-ViE SOCs support digital image stabilization for use in camcorders or IP-cameras. They also include comprehensive analytics and other capabilities for surveillance cameras including motion detection, object tracking, scene change detection, event-triggered HD still image capture, privacy region protection, and digital time stamp burn-in.

The en-ViE platform features a complete Linux development environment substantially expanding upon Mobilygen's existing H.264 software. This includes production ready APIs, drivers, optimized codec firmware, example applications and complete reference designs to accelerate time to market.

Pricing and Availability
The en-ViE platform provides a range of solutions covering consumer and surveillance use. The en-ViE evaluation system will be available in August 2007 with SOC production volumes scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2007. The MG3500 HD Codec is priced at $30 in high volume. Pricing for other en-ViE family members is available from Mobilygen.
